What they need
Technical Lead/Lead Software Engineer
Fully Remote | US Citizens or Green Card Holders
Must be in a Tech Lead or Hands on Manager and worked in the similiar dev tooling, dev infrastructure space. Also must have a background in Rust or Python
We are a venture-backed, Series B developer infrastructure company, who has products in the security, security software toolchain and AI space. We are backed by top-tier investors and growing our enterprise footprint quickly. The engineering team is small, senior and organized into autonomous pods with no layers of management in between.
The Role
We are hiring a hands-on Technical Lead for our Enterprise pod, the team that builds the authentication, SSO and enterprise-grade capabilities our largest customers depend on. You will lead a pod of three to four engineers while still writing production code, owning architecture, and setting the technical direction for the work. Expect roughly 60 to 70 percent of your time to be hands-on engineering and 30 to 40 percent leadership, so you need to be one of the strongest technical resources on the pod.
This is not a people-management-only role. Our leads are engineers first: you will be in the codebase, in design reviews and in incident channels alongside your team. You are also the person who keeps the pod moving forward, making sure the team is building the right things in the right order and course-correcting early when something is heading the wrong way.
You will work closely with our founders, so you need the judgment to push back thoughtfully, translate business priorities into technical plans, and earn trust through clear, diplomatic communication. Former engineering managers who want to get back to being hands-on are very welcome. Because you will be building enterprise developer infrastructure at a fast-moving startup, prior experience in the developer tooling or infrastructure space and at venture-backed, Series A to C companies is essential.
Core Responsibilities
- Lead a pod of 3 to 4 engineers building our enterprise platform, including authentication, SSO, identity and access controls, and the backend services behind them
- Stay hands-on: write and review production code in Rust and Python, and take on the hardest and most ambiguous parts of the system yourself
- Own the technical architecture for the pod, making sound design decisions that balance speed of delivery with security, reliability and long-term system health
- Run the pod's planning and execution: scope work, break down projects, set priorities, track progress and make sure commitments land
- Spot early when the team is heading in the wrong direction and redirect with clear reasoning, not just process
- Partner directly with the founders and product stakeholders, turning enterprise customer needs and business priorities into a practical technical roadmap
- Raise the bar on engineering quality through code review, design docs, testing standards and mentorship
- Collaborate across pods and with our Europe-based teammates to keep shared systems and interfaces consistent
What We're Looking For
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience building and shipping production systems
- 2+ years as a tech lead, staff engineer leading a team, or engineering manager, while remaining hands-on in the code
- Deep production experience in Rust and/or Python; you should be a strong technical resource the team relies on for the hardest problems
- Solid foundations in technical architecture: distributed backend services, APIs, data models and system design trade-offs
- Extensive experience conducting code reviews and mentoring engineers to raise the level of the whole team
- Project management skills: planning and scoping work, setting priorities, tracking progress and keeping people on track to deliver commitments
- Required: experience at venture-backed, Series A to C startups in developer tooling, infrastructure, platform engineering or B2B SaaS, where you owned outcomes end to end with limited process and ambiguous requirements
- Diplomatic, clear communication and the confidence to work directly with founders, including disagreeing constructively
Strong Signals
- Hands-on experience building authentication, SSO and identity systems (SAML, OIDC, OAuth 2.0, SCIM, RBAC, multi-tenancy); a security background is a plus but not required
- Background building enterprise features for B2B SaaS or developer platform companies
- Experience building CLI tools or systems-level software for developers
- Familiarity with reproducible build systems or package managers (Nix, Bazel or similar)
- Exposure to software supply chain security, package management or build systems
- A mix of startup and larger-company experience, so you know both how to move fast and what good looks like at scale
- Former engineering manager who has deliberately chosen to return to a hands-on technical leadership role
