Technical Lead - Remote Operations

TE TŪRANGA I THE ROLE

We’re looking for a Technical Lead - Remote Operations to join our Sport Content team and support the successful delivery of Sky’s remote production operations.
 
In this role, you’ll be a key technical point of contact during live productions, helping ensure venue-to-hub broadcasts are technically reliable, well-coordinated and operationally ready. You’ll work closely with production, operations, engineering teams and suppliers to support the smooth flow of feeds, signals, communications and systems across the remote production environment.
 
You’ll bring strong technical expertise, sound judgement and a practical, solutions-focused approach to live event delivery, helping maintain operational continuity, strengthen workflows and contribute to continuous improvement across remote production operations.
 
This role is based in our Mount Wellington, Auckland office and will support live sport and broadcast operations across Sky’s remote production environments.

NGĀ HAEPAPA | ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Support the technical delivery of remote production operations by coordinating venue-to-hub requirements, monitoring signal paths, communications and feeds during live events, and helping maintain stable broadcast delivery across control room and remote operations environments.
• Provide hands-on technical support during live productions, assisting operators and production teams to diagnose and resolve issues in real time, escalating where required and helping minimise operational disruption or on-air impact.
• Coordinate technical readiness activities for remote events, including pre-event testing, system configuration, connectivity checks, supplier coordination and operational sign-off.
• Contribute to technical project delivery and operational improvements by supporting testing, implementation and training activities for new systems, workflows or process changes.
• Maintain and improve operational documentation, incident tracking and technical processes, identifying opportunities to strengthen consistency, resilience and efficiency across remote production operations.

You’ll bring proven live broadcast technical experience, a calm and practical approach under pressure, and the ability to work confidently across production, operations, engineering teams and suppliers. Together with this, you’ll have:  

• Demonstrated experience working in live broadcast, OB, control room, remote production or technical operations environments, with a strong understanding of venue-to-hub workflows and live operational delivery.
• Strong technical knowledge of broadcast signal flows, contribution and communications systems, including familiarity with technologies such as SMPTE 2110, SDI, SRT workflows, EVS, RTS, Sony vision systems or Lawo audio environments.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot and respond to technical issues in fast-paced live environments, using sound judgement and a calm, practical approach under pressure.
• Experience working collaboratively with production, operations, engineering teams, suppliers or external partners to support successful technical delivery outcomes.
• Strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and contribute to operational improvements in a live broadcast environment.
