**Job Title: Technical Manager I - Mechanical (SME)

Location: Los Angeles, CA / Any U.S. Office / Remote

Employment Type: Part-Time (Less than 20 hours per week)**  

Job Overview

Client is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineering Subject Matter Expert (SME) for a part-time Technical Manager I position. This role is ideal for a senior mechanical engineer with extensive experience in the Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) consulting industry who is interested in sharing technical expertise, mentoring junior engineers, and contributing to firmwide engineering standards and knowledge management initiatives.

The selected candidate will help develop and maintain the company's technical knowledge database, engineering specifications, standard details, and calculation tools while collaborating with technical experts and software engineers to enhance engineering practices and knowledge-sharing capabilities.

 

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain technical content for the company's Knowledge Den knowledge management database.
• Create, review, and update mechanical engineering specifications and technical standards.
• Develop and maintain standardized mechanical engineering details and design documentation.
• Create, update, and validate firmwide mechanical engineering calculation spreadsheets.
• Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to junior engineers.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to maintain consistency and quality across engineering deliverables.
• Support software engineers in developing Copilot capabilities for the Knowledge Den platform.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering design practices, technical resources, and company-wide standards.
• Ensure technical content aligns with industry’s best practices, applicable codes, and engineering standards.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited institution.
• 15+ years of professional experience in the MEP engineering consulting industry.
• Extensive experience in mechanical engineering design, standards, specifications, and calculations.
• Strong understanding of mechanical systems within commercial and institutional building projects.
• Experience developing and reviewing engineering documentation, standard details, and calculation tools.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor, train, and provide technical guidance to engineers.
• Excellent technical writing, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work independently and contribute effectively in a flexible, part-time work arrangement.

Preferred Qualifications

• 20+ years of experience in mechanical engineering or MEP consulting.
• Experience developing firmwide engineering standards, technical specifications, and knowledge management resources.
• Familiarity with engineering software tools, automation, and AI-assisted knowledge management solutions.
• Experience supporting multidisciplinary engineering teams and technical quality initiatives.
