Technical Migration Engineer / SharePoint Migration Specialist

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Technical Migration Engineer / SharePoint Migration Specialist to support a large-scale enterprise content migration programme. The successful candidate will migrate enterprise documents, metadata, folder structures, permissions and document history from legacy Document Management Systems (DMS), primarily Alfresco, to Microsoft SharePoint Online. This is a hands-on technical role requiring strong PowerShell scripting, SharePoint Online knowledge, data analysis and troubleshooting skills. You will work closely with the Migration Lead and progressively take ownership of migration batches and independent migration activities.

Key responsibilities

• Execute end-to-end content migration activities, including preparation, migration, validation, reconciliation and handover.
• Maintain, execute, troubleshoot and modify existing PowerShell migration scripts.
• Perform SharePoint Online migrations using tools such as ShareGate and PnP PowerShell.
• Analyse large CSV and Excel metadata extracts to identify missing documents, duplicate files, invalid paths, metadata issues and migration exceptions.
• Prepare migration batches, staging structures, destination paths, folder structures and metadata mappings.
• Support document, folder, metadata, permission and version-history migration.
• Review source permissions and map users and groups to SharePoint permissions, including unique permissions and inheritance.
• Monitor migration execution, investigate errors, perform retries and support recovery activities.
• Conduct source-to-target reconciliation, validating document counts, folder structures, metadata, permissions and migrated content.
• Prepare migration reports, exception reports, technical documentation and handover records.

About you

• Strong hands-on experience in PowerShell scripting, including reading, modifying, troubleshooting and executing existing scripts.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint Online and Microsoft 365 environments.
• Experience with data migration, content migration or system migration projects.
• Experience working with large datasets using CSV, Excel or similar formats.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Understanding of file systems, folder structures, document paths, access permissions and metadata.
• Ability to analyse technical logs, investigate migration failures and support remediation.
• Ability to work independently, manage assigned tasks and communicate technical issues clearly.
• Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
