What they need

About the role

About Wavecom

Wavecom Instruments is an Australian manufacturer of electrical testing and compliance equipment and the developer of the WinPATS Connected Compliance Ecosystem.

We design, manufacture and support our own range of electrical safety testing equipment, cloud software and mobile applications, supplying customers throughout Australia and New Zealand.

As Wavecom continues to grow and expand across Australia and New Zealand, we are looking for a capable and technically minded Technical Operations Administrator to manage the day-to-day operations of our Perth office.

About the Role

This is a varied, hands-on position combining technical support, office operations, equipment calibration, software support, inventory management, receiving and dispatch, and customer service.

Our current Perth Sales Manager performs many of these functions alongside his sales responsibilities and is relocating to New Zealand to establish and grow our new NZ operation.

We are therefore looking for someone who can take ownership of the operational and technical requirements of our Perth office while developing a strong understanding of Wavecom's products, customers and WinPATS software platform.

You do not need to be an engineer or experienced calibration technician. Wavecom has developed an automated calibration system, and comprehensive training will be provided.

What we are looking for is someone who is technically minded, comfortable with computers and software, good with customers and willing to learn.

Importantly, this position offers a genuine career pathway into a full-time Sales and Business Development role as your product, software, industry and customer knowledge develops.

What You'll Be Doing

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the day-to-day operation of the Perth office
  • Answering customer enquiries by phone and email
  • Providing first-level technical support for Wavecom products
  • Assisting customers with the WinPATS software ecosystem, including our cloud and mobile applications
  • Receiving customer equipment and incoming deliveries
  • Processing, packing and dispatching customer orders
  • Managing local inventory and maintaining an organised warehouse
  • Booking customer equipment in and out for calibration and service
  • Performing equipment calibrations using Wavecom's automated calibration system
  • Preparing calibration documentation and maintaining accurate records
  • Coordinating with Wavecom's head office, technical, calibration and sales teams
  • Assisting customers with product selection and general enquiries
  • Identifying customer requirements and potential sales opportunities

Full training will be provided across Wavecom products, WinPATS software and our automated calibration systems.

About You

We are looking for someone who is organised, dependable, technically curious, confident with customers and commercially minded.

You will ideally have:

  • Strong administration and organisational skills
  • Good computer skills and the ability to learn new systems quickly
  • A practical and technically minded approach
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Good customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Attention to detail and accurate record keeping
  • The ability to work independently and take ownership of responsibilities
  • Confidence working with technical products and equipment
  • An interest in developing your sales and customer relationship skills
  • A willingness to learn equipment calibration and technical troubleshooting

Desirable Experience

Experience in any of the following would be highly regarded, but is not essential:

  • IT, software or technical support
  • Cloud-based software, mobile applications or web platforms
  • Electrical or electronic equipment
  • Test and measurement equipment or calibration
  • Technical customer support
  • Inventory, warehousing, receiving and dispatch
  • Customer service or sales

Candidates with an IT or software background are particularly encouraged to apply.

The successful applicant will be trained across the WinPATS Connected Compliance Ecosystem, including our cloud platform, mobile applications and connected test instruments, and will progressively develop the knowledge required to support customers across both our hardware and software solutions.

Career Pathway into Sales

We see this position as more than an administration role.

You will gain hands-on knowledge of Wavecom's products, software, technology, customers and industry. As your knowledge and confidence develop, there will be opportunities to become increasingly involved in the commercial side of the business.

This may include:

  • Handling incoming sales enquiries
  • Understanding customer requirements and recommending suitable solutions
  • Preparing quotations and following up opportunities
  • Conducting product and software demonstrations
  • Developing relationships with existing customers
  • Supporting local distributors and partners
  • Visiting customers
  • Identifying new business opportunities
  • Representing Wavecom within the Western Australian market

For the right person, there is a genuine opportunity to progress into a full-time Sales and Business Development role and take greater responsibility for the WA market.

What We Offer

  • Full product and technical training
  • Training on the complete WinPATS software ecosystem
  • Training on Wavecom's automated calibration systems
  • Exposure to Australian-designed and manufactured technology
  • A diverse role across technical support, software, operations and customer service
  • Support from our national sales, technical and calibration teams
  • Clear career pathway into Sales and Business Development
  • Opportunity to develop both technical and commercial skills
  • Long-term career development within a growing Australian technology and manufacturing company

How to Apply

If you're technically minded, enjoy working with customers and want a role where you can develop from technical operations into sales and business development, we'd like to hear from you.
