What they need
About Us
SFE Global is a Canadian owned and operated company since 1992. Specializing in providing underground water and wastewater pipeline assessment and monitoring services across British Columbia and Western Canada. Our work includes pipeline pigging, inline condition assessment, flow and pressure monitoring, and smoke testing for municipalities, utilities, engineering firms, and industrial clients. As our field program grows, we're looking for a Technical Operations Assistant with hands-on pigging experience and strong mechanical knowledge to join our small, hands-on team.
The Role
Reporting to key management personnel, you'll be the link between our field crews and our project team. You'll help plan and prepare pigging and inline inspection jobs, keep our equipment ready to go, support crews in the field, and make sure every job is properly documented. This role suits someone who knows their way around pipelines and mechanical equipment and wants to apply that experience with a company where their work makes a visible difference.
Responsibilities
- Support the planning of pipeline pigging and inline inspection projects, including review of pipe material, diameter, length, fittings, and launch and receive locations
- Review drawings and as-builts to identify bends, bore restrictions, valves, tees, and other features that affect tool passage
- Prepare, inspect, and maintain field equipment, including pigs, launchers and receivers, pumps, compressors, hoses, valves, fittings, and trailers
- Assist crews on site with mobilization, tool launch and retrieval, and demobilization
- Transport equipment to and from job sites, including towing equipment trailers
- Help prepare work plans, equipment lists, safe work procedures, and job assessments
- Track equipment, parts, and consumable inventory, and coordinate orders with suppliers
- Compile field notes, photos, and data into job records and support report preparation
- Communicate with project managers and technical staff on scope, scheduling, and site conditions
What We're Looking For
Approximately 2+ years of hands-on experience in pipeline pigging, pipeline maintenance, or a related field (municipal water and wastewater, oil and gas, or industrial)
Valid driver's licence and clean driver's abstract (required); experience driving a pickup truck with a trailer, including hitching, towing, and backing up, is a strong asset
Ability to travel regularly by road and air for project work across BC, Western Canada, and beyond, including overnight and multi-day stays and occasional work outside regular hours (required)
Strong mechanical aptitude, with experience maintaining and troubleshooting pumps, compressors, valves, hydraulics, or similar equipment
Working knowledge of pipeline and mechanical terminology, including pipe materials (ductile iron, cast iron, PVC, HDPE, AC, steel), fittings, flanges, valves, bend radius, and launch and receive configurations
Ability to read and interpret drawings, as-builts, etc.
Organized and detail-oriented, with good record keeping habits
Clear written and verbal communication skills, and comfort working with both field crews and office staff
Comfort with the Microsoft Office suite of apps, along with other pipeline tracking and inspection software (training provided)
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and lift up to 60 lbs
Safety training such as Confined Space Entry, WHMIS, and First Aid, is an asset, but will be provided as required.
Trades or technical training (millwright, heavy duty mechanic, engineering technology, or similar), or equivalent experience is an asset.
A team player who's comfortable in a small company environment where everyone pitches in
What We Offer

- Travel allowance / phone allowance
- Hands-on experience with a range of inline condition assessment technologies, processes and procedures for pipeline pigging
