Overview

An established international engineering and infrastructure consultancy is seeking an experienced Project Manager to join its Bridge Design team on a 12-month freelance contract . This role will be based in Berlin and will focus on the delivery of complex bridge and transportation infrastructure projects throughout Germany.

The successful candidate will combine strong project management skills with a solid technical background in bridge engineering and design. This position is particularly suited to an individual who has progressed from a structural or bridge design role into project leadership and is comfortable managing multidisciplinary design teams, clients, and project delivery requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of bridge and civil infrastructure design projects from concept through detailed design stages.
• Manage project budgets, schedules, resources, and technical deliverables.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams, including structural, geotechnical, and transportation specialists.
• Act as the primary point of contact for clients, contractors, and key stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with German engineering standards, design regulations, and quality requirements.
• Oversee design reviews, technical submissions, and project documentation.
• Support the development and implementation of BIM processes and digital engineering workflows.
• Identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers.
• Attend project meetings and represent the design team throughout the project lifecycle.

Requirements

• Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Proven experience managing bridge design and infrastructure projects.
• Strong background in bridge construction and structural design.
• Previous experience working within an engineering consultancy or design environment.
• Understanding of BIM methodologies and experience working with, or alongside, Revit -based design teams.
• Knowledge of German infrastructure standards and approval processes.
• Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and coordinate complex technical projects.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.
• German language proficiency at C1 level or higher (mandatory).
• Professional working proficiency in English.

Preferred Experience

• Background as a Bridge Engineer, Structural Engineer, or Design Engineer before moving into project management.
• Experience delivering highway, rail, or major infrastructure bridge projects.
• Familiarity with BIM coordination platforms and digital design environments.
• Experience working on public-sector or large-scale transportation projects within Germany.
