Technical Project Manager, PMO

The Technical Project Manager, PMO is responsible for leading complex technology projects from initiation through successful deployment and operational transition. This role serves as the primary point of accountability for project planning, execution, governance, risk management, stakeholder communication, and delivery outcomes across Managed IT, Security, Infrastructure, Cloud, and Unified Communications initiatives.

The Technical Project Manager partners with leadership, engineering, sales, service delivery, vendors, and clients to ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, within budget, and aligned with business objectives. This position plays a key role in advancing Project Management Office (PMO) standards, methodologies, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Core Responsibilities

Project Delivery Leadership

• Manage multiple concurrent technical projects from contract approval through production deployment and operational handoff.
• Develop and maintain detailed project plans, schedules, milestones, resource allocations, and delivery timelines.
• Facilitate project kickoff meetings and ongoing status reviews with internal and external stakeholders.
• Monitor project scope, schedule, risks, dependencies, and budget performance.
• Drive issue resolution and escalation management to prevent project delays.
• Ensure successful transition of completed projects to support, operations, and service delivery teams.

PMO Governance & Methodology

• Support and enforce PMO standards, project governance frameworks, and delivery methodologies.
• Maintain project documentation, status reporting, risk registers, change logs, and stakeholder communications.
• Establish project stage gates, acceptance criteria, and deployment readiness reviews.
• Drive adherence to project management best practices, templates, and reporting requirements.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of PMO processes, tools, and project delivery standards.

Portfolio & Resource Management

• Maintain visibility into the project portfolio, including schedules, capacity, resource utilization, and project health.
• Identify resource conflicts and coordinate priorities across engineering, operations, and business teams.
• Provide accurate forecasting of project timelines, resource requirements, and delivery risks.
• Support leadership with portfolio reporting, project dashboards, and executive-level updates.

Technical Implementation Oversight

• Coordinate infrastructure, cloud, security, networking, Microsoft 365, and voice deployment projects.
• Manage vendor relationships and third-party project dependencies.
• Oversee deployment readiness, testing, migration activities, cutovers, and post-implementation reviews.
• Ensure technical deliverables align with project requirements and client expectations.
• Validate project completion criteria before operational handoff.

Risk, Change, and Financial Management

• Manage project budgets, labor utilization, scope changes, and change orders.
• Identify and mitigate project risks through proactive planning and stakeholder engagement.
• Track project financial performance and provide variance reporting.
• Ensure scope changes are documented, approved, and incorporated into project plans.

Stakeholder Management

• Serve as the primary communication point between clients, leadership, engineering teams, vendors, and business stakeholders.
• Provide regular status updates, executive summaries, project forecasts, and risk assessments.
• Build trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders through consistent delivery and transparent communication.
• Facilitate decision-making by presenting recommendations and actionable solutions.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of technical project management experience within IT services, MSP, technology consulting, telecommunications, or enterprise technology environments.
• Experience managing complex infrastructure, cloud, security, Microsoft 365, networking, or unified communications projects.
• Demonstrated success leading cross-functional teams and delivering multiple concurrent projects.
• Strong knowledge of project management methodologies, including Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid approaches.
• Experience with PMO governance, project lifecycle management, and portfolio reporting.
• Proficiency with project management tools such as Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, Jira, Asana, Monday.com, ConnectWise, or comparable platforms.
• Strong financial management, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting skills.
• Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and executive presentation abilities.
• Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
• Scrum Master, PRINCE2, Agile, or SAFe certifications.
• Experience working within a formal PMO environment.
• Experience in Managed Services (MSP) or IT consulting organizations.
• Microsoft, Cisco, Azure, Security, or cloud certifications.
• Experience managing enterprise-level client implementations and digital transformation initiatives.
