Technical Purchasing Manager - Lighting products

We are hiring for a technically oriented purchasing manager with current or prior experience purchasing LED lighting components along with strong vendor negotiation background to reduce costs.

Role Description As a Technical Purchasing Manager for lighting products, you will be responsible for managing the end-to-end procurement cycle for LED boards, metal components, and related lighting components in a full-time, onsite role in Vernon area office located in Los Angeles.

Day-to-day tasks include identifying and qualifying suppliers, driving negotiations to reduce costs, evaluating technical specifications, negotiating pricing and terms, and ensuring timely delivery to meet project and inventory needs.

You will analyze product performance and market trends, compare technical documentation, and collaborate closely with sales, engineering, logistics, and finance to align purchasing decisions with business objectives. The role involves maintaining accurate procurement records, optimizing stock levels, and resolving supply issues while upholding quality standards and regulatory requirements. You will also contribute to continuous improvement of purchasing processes and support the introduction of new lighting technologies into the product portfolio.

Must be comfortable in a startup hands on environment wearing multiple hats. Base salary between 100k to 130k depending on experience. Local Los Angeles based candidates only.

Qualifications

• Strong technical understanding of lighting products (e.g., LED technologies, drivers, control systems, luminaires) and ability to interpret datasheets and technical documentation.
• Experience in procurement or supply chain management, including supplier sourcing, contract negotiation, and cost analysis within manufacturing, distribution, or related industries.
• Competence in using ERP and procurement software, as well as MS Excel or similar tools for data analysis, forecasting, and reporting.
• Solid organizational and planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple purchasing projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a remote environment.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills for coordinating with suppliers and internal teams across different locations and time zones.
• Analytical and problem-solving abilities to evaluate alternatives, manage risks, and support data-driven purchasing decisions.
• Relevant education in engineering, supply chain, business, or a related field; professional certifications in procurement or supply management are an advantage.
• Previous experience in the lighting industry or electrical products sector is highly beneficial, as is familiarity with applicable standards and regulations.
