What they need
High Performance. High Reward. No Passengers.
At BWS, we're building a team of ambitious, customer-focused people who take pride in doing the job properly.
We're not looking for someone who wants to coast, hide behind email quotes, or wait for opportunities to land in their lap.
We're looking for a commercially minded, technically capable sales professional who enjoys meeting customers, solving problems, winning business, taking ownership and being recognised for the results they deliver.
The Opportunity
BWS is a growing group of fire, security and electrical businesses, currently generating approximately £13 million in revenue and targeting growth beyond £30 million through organic expansion and acquisitions.
This is a key growth role with significant opportunity for the right person to make an immediate commercial impact.
As our Technical Sales Surveyor , you'll be responsible for surveying, designing, estimating and selling fire, security, life safety and associated electrical systems across the South West region. You'll combine technical expertise with commercial awareness to develop compliant, cost-effective solutions that genuinely meet customer needs.
You'll take ownership of opportunities from initial enquiry through to quotation, negotiation and order, building long-term relationships with customers while helping drive the next phase of growth for the business.
This is not a desk-based estimating role.
It's a customer-facing, revenue-generating position for somebody who enjoys getting in front of customers, identifying opportunities, solving technical challenges and closing deals.
What You'll Do
- Take ownership of sales enquiries from first contact through to quotation and order placement.
- Conduct detailed site surveys to understand customer requirements and project constraints.
- Design fire alarm, CCTV, access control, intruder alarm, voice alarm, disabled refuge, intercom and associated systems.
- Prepare accurate quotations, proposals and technical submissions.
- Build strong relationships with customers, contractors, consultants and stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities for upgrades, maintenance contracts, remedial works and cross-selling.
- Attend customer meetings, site visits and presentations.
- Review tender documentation, drawings and specifications.
- Work closely with suppliers and manufacturers to develop the most suitable solutions.
- Manage opportunity pipelines and maintain accurate CRM records.
- Follow up quotations, handle negotiations and secure orders.
- Achieve agreed sales revenue and margin targets.
- Provide detailed handovers to installation and service teams.
- Support project delivery teams with technical expertise when required.
- Represent BWS professionally and help strengthen our reputation throughout the market.
What We're Looking For
You'll ideally bring:
- Experience within the fire, security, life safety or building services sectors.
- Strong technical knowledge of fire alarm, CCTV, access control, intruder alarm and related systems.
- Experience carrying out technical surveys and producing quotations.
- The ability to interpret drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
- Strong commercial awareness and an understanding of margin management.
- Excellent communication, presentation and relationship-building skills.
- Strong organisational and time management capability.
- Experience using CRM systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- A full UK driving licence.
- A proactive, self-starting approach and a desire to continually raise standards.
Desirable
- FIA, BAFE, NSI or other industry-related qualifications.
- AutoCAD or other design software experience.
- Knowledge of BS 5839, BS EN 54, NSI Codes of Practice and related British Standards.
- Experience working on construction projects under CDM regulations.
- Experience selling maintenance and service contracts.
- CSCS card or equivalent.
