The Role

• As our first in-house sourcing hire, you’ll build the talent pipelines that power Hyphenate’s next stage of growth as we prepare for our Series A. You’ll help us find and engage the engineers who will build Hyphenate, creating a consistent pipeline of exceptional talent and reducing our reliance on external agencies.
• Your primary focus will be software engineering hiring, spanning early-career, mid-level, senior, and staff engineers, with additional support for product roles. You’ll own the sourcing process from talent research and personalized outreach through initial candidate conversations and handoff to the hiring team.
• This is a hands-on role for someone who combines research instincts, excellent communication, and the persistence to turn a promising profile into a meaningful conversation.

What You’ll Own

• Build targeted talent pipelines. Partner with founders and hiring managers to understand hiring priorities, define candidate personas, and identify people who meet our technical and cultural bar.
• Run outbound sourcing across channels. Find and engage candidates through LinkedIn Recruiter, sourcing platforms, research, referrals, communities, and cold-email campaigns.
• Write outreach that earns a response. Create personalized emails, LinkedIn messages, and follow-up sequences that communicate why Hyphenate and why this opportunity.
• Operate with pace and precision. Reach approximately 50–100 newly shortlisted candidates daily across channels and manage 75–100+ daily cold-email sends, including campaign follow-ups, while maintaining thoughtful targeting and message quality.
• Bring the opportunity to life. Lead initial conversations, explain our mission and engineering challenges, understand candidates’ motivations, and build interest in the team.
• Build our talent CRM. Maintain organized, searchable candidate databases with clear records of outreach, engagement, fit, and future hiring potential.
• Find new sources of talent. Experiment with cold calling, community partnerships, meetups, and recruiting events in New York.
• Improve the sourcing engine. Track response rates, qualified conversations, and pipeline conversion, then use the results and hiring-team feedback to sharpen your approach.

What You Should Have Done Before

• 3–7 years of technical sourcing or recruiting experience, including hands-on sourcing for early-stage startups.
• Sourced software engineers across experience levels, including senior and staff engineers.
• Built and managed outbound campaigns, candidate pipelines, and talent CRM workflows.
• Worked closely with founders or engineering leaders to translate hiring needs into focused searches.
• Developed excellent written and verbal communication skills—you can write compelling outreach and confidently pitch an early-stage company.
• Used sourcing and recruiting tools such as LinkedIn Recruiter, Gem, HireVue, SeekOut, Juicebox, and Metaview. Experience across several is valuable; mastery of every tool is not required.

You’ll Stand Out If

• You’ve been a founding recruiter or an early recruiting hire at a Series A or Series B startup.
• You’ve helped grow an engineering team at a company scaling within the roughly 20–150 employee range.
• You’ve built sourcing processes and talent databases from scratch.
• You’ve sourced for product roles alongside engineering.
• You’ve successfully reached hard-to-engage candidates through creative channels, events, or cold calling.
