What they need

Are you technically strong, solution-oriented and do you have a heart for shipping? Vertom Bereederungs GmbH & Co. KG is looking for a Technical Superintendent (m/f/d) to strengthen our technical team in Moormerland, Germany. Vertom Bereederungs is part of the Vertom Group, based in Rhoon, the Netherlands: a maritime service provider, supplier and expert with over 50 years of experience and operations worldwide.

From Moormerland, we handle the technical management of just under 50 modern multi-purpose vessels with capacities ranging from 3,000 to 12,000 DWT. And our fleet keeps growing: in an ongoing newbuild project, around 30 advanced diesel-electric propulsion vessels will be delivered up to 2030. In this role, you are the link between the vessels, their crews, shipyards, suppliers and our colleagues ashore. You ensure that the vessels under your supervision operate reliably, safely and cost-effectively, from day-to-day technical operations to the planning of dry-dockings.

We are looking for a proactive professional with a solid technical background, who keeps a clear overview, takes decisions and feels at home in a dynamic and international working environment.

In this role, you are responsible for the following tasks and responsibilities:

  • Monitoring and ensuring the technical operation of the vessels under your supervision;
  • Organising and managing class dry-dockings;
  • Procuring the materials required on board for the engine and deck departments, in collaboration with the purchasing department;
  • Coordinating and overseeing service interventions in the engine and deck departments;
  • Supervising maintenance work carried out on board;
  • Conducting regular vessel visits and preparing the corresponding reports;
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant occupational health and safety regulations on board;
  • Preparing and monitoring budgets.

What you can expect from us:

Within the Vertom Group, employees are regarded as our most important asset. That is why the Vertom Group gladly invests in a positive working environment in which employee involvement is motivated and encouraged.

We offer a varied and challenging position with opportunities for growth and good primary and secondary employment conditions, within a growing, international and dynamic organisation.

This includes:

  • An attractive salary, including Christmas and holiday bonuses;
  • Participation in the company pension scheme;
  • A company car, including private use;
  • Flexible working hours, remote work options and a good work-life balance;
  • Opportunities for further training and career development within the shipping company;
  • A modern fleet and state-of-the-art technical equipment;
  • Ergonomic and modern workspaces;
  • Support from a dedicated, international team;
  • Participation in the Hansefit sports programme and e-bike leasing;
  • Company events.

What do we expect from you?

  • A degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Marine Technology or a comparable technical qualification (e.g. Chief Engineer Certificate / STCW III/2);
  • Experience in a technical role on board (e.g. Chief Engineer, 2nd Engineer or 3rd Engineer) or relevant shore-based experience in the technical department of a shipping company;
  • Experience in planning and executing dry-dockings, maintenance work and repair projects;
  • Proven experience in budget and cost management for technical operating expenses (OPEX/CAPEX);
  • Sound knowledge of international regulations, such as the ISM Code, MARPOL, SOLAS and classification society and flag state requirements;
  • Solid knowledge of marine propulsion systems, auxiliary machinery and onboard technical systems (e.g. propulsion plants, power generation, pumps, HVAC);
  • Understanding of modern shipboard technical systems, energy efficiency measures and environmental regulations;
  • Proficiency in Planned Maintenance Systems (PMS) and standard IT tools such as MS Office;
  • Strong organisational and project management skills;
  • A decisive, proactive and solution-oriented attitude;
  • Resilience, flexibility and willingness to travel internationally;
  • Team spirit and intercultural understanding;
  • Good written and spoken English, the working language of the international shipping industry.
