Position Summary

The Technician Assistant / Service Drive Technician supports the Service Department by assisting technicians, performing vehicle quality‑control checks, conducting emission monitoring test drives, and completing drive‑through emissions procedures. This role also includes test‑driving vehicles with clients to identify intermittent concerns, ensuring accurate documentation, and maintaining smooth service operations. The position requires foundational technician experience and a strong commitment to safety, customer service, and dealership standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Technician Support & Service Drive Operations

• Assist technicians with vehicle intake, staging, and movement throughout the service department.
• Perform preliminary inspections and quality‑control checks on vehicles entering service.
• Ensure vehicles are properly parked, tagged, and routed to the correct technician or service bay.
• Support shop workflow by transporting vehicles between service areas as needed.

Emission Monitoring & Test Drives

• Conduct emission monitoring test drives according to Ferrari and regulatory requirements.
• Perform drive‑through emissions tests and document results accurately.
• Complete diagnostic test drives to verify repairs or identify drivability concerns.
• Safely operate dealership vehicles during all test‑drive procedures.

Client Interaction & Intermittent Issue Diagnosis

• Test‑drive vehicles with clients when needed to replicate intermittent issues.
• Communicate clearly and professionally to gather accurate symptom descriptions.
• Document findings for technicians to support accurate diagnosis and repair.

Quality Control & Vehicle Readiness

• Inspect new vehicles and post‑service for cleanliness, proper operation, and completion of requested work.
• Verify that warning lights, emissions indicators, and drivability concerns have been resolved.
• Report any discrepancies or safety concerns immediately to the Director of Fixed Operations or assigned technician.

Shop & Safety Support

• Maintain a clean, organized service drive and technician work areas.
• Follow all dealership, Ferrari, and Cal/OSHA safety protocols.
• Assist with moving vehicles in and out of bays, parking areas, and customer pickup zones.
• Support the Service Department with additional tasks as assigned.

Required Education, Experience, and Training

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Some technician or automotive repair experience required.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
• Experience in a dealership or automotive service environment preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to safely operate a wide range of vehicles, including manual transmissions.
• Strong communication and customer‑service skills.
• Attention to detail is a must.
• Problem solving skills
• Ability to identify basic mechanical issues and describe symptoms accurately.
• Comfortable performing test drives in varying traffic and weather conditions.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast‑paced environment.
• Basic understanding of emissions systems and diagnostic procedures preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, and move between service drive and shop areas for extended periods.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally.
• Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach during vehicle inspections.
• Ability to operate dealership vehicles safely, including during extended test drives.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.

Work Environment

• Fast‑paced dealership service and technician shop environment.
• Indoor and outdoor work with exposure to weather, noise, and moving vehicles.
• Frequent interaction with technicians, service advisors, and clients.
