🚀 About the Company
Our client is an established European precision engineering enterprise with a global manufacturing footprint, specializing in complex, high-precision manufacturing and sub-assembly. The company supports leading international original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) across high-tech sectors, including Semiconductor, Medical Devices, Scientific Instrumentation, and Advanced Industrial Equipment.
Known for its expertise in High-Mix, Low-Volume (HMLV) production and advanced CNC machining of high-performance engineering plastics, the company is expanding its international operations by establishing a brand-new, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Selangor, Malaysia.
💡 About the Role
We are seeking a hands-on, high-caliber Technology & Engineering Manager to lead the site's engineering function from the ground up. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will serve as the core technical leader, bridging product development, NPI, precision manufacturing, metrology, and operational execution.
This is a unique "Player-Coach" opportunity. In the startup phase, you will actively drive NPI, CAD/CAM standards, DFM, and quality strategies, while progressively building, mentoring, and scaling a specialized local engineering team into a mature, smoothly running function.
🔑 Key Responsibilities
- Department Leadership & Strategy: Lead, develop, and scale the local technology and engineering division covering NPI project management, CAD/CAM programming, production engineering, metrology, quality engineering, and automation.
- Manufacturing & Industrialization: Define optimal manufacturing methods, machining strategies, workholding/fixturing concepts, and measurement plans for complex components with tight tolerances (2–5 microns).
- New Product Introduction (NPI): Own stage-gated NPI workflows from customer quotation through prototyping, First Article Inspection (FAI/FAIR), capability studies ($C_{pk}$), control plans, and volume release.
- Customer DFM Collaboration: Serve as the primary technical counterpart to international customer R&D teams, offering Design for Manufacturability (DFM) advice, tolerance optimization, and material recommendations.
- Cost Engineering: Build technical costing models (cycle times, machine rates, tooling, setup assumptions, and yields) to support commercial quotes and drive process cost-downs.
- CAD/CAM & CNC Machining: Establish programming standards and simulation practices for multi-axis CNC milling and turning components.
- Metrology & Quality Systems: Define sub-micron/micron metrology strategies (CMM programming, GD&T, MSA, SPC) and deploy data-driven process controls in compliance with ISO requirements.
- Plastics Material Engineering: Apply specialized knowledge of high-performance plastics (PEEK, PTFE, POM, Torlon, etc.) regarding thermal behavior, stress relief, deformation, cleanliness, and outgassing.
- Digitalization & Automation: Introduce smart manufacturing solutions, robotics, ERP/MES integrations, and automated engineering workflows.
🎯 Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics, or related discipline.
- Experience: Minimum 10+ years of hands-on experience in precision machining or production engineering, with demonstrated leadership in NPI or engineering teams.
- Precision Machining Mastery: Solid experience in high-precision CNC machining (milling/turning), CAD/CAM programming, and tight-tolerance component production (microns).
- HMLV / Contract Manufacturing Background: Proven experience in High-Mix, Low-Volume, make-to-print, or engineering-to-order environments.
- Industry Focus: Strong exposure to Semiconductor, Medical Device, Scientific Equipment, or High-Tech supply chains. Experience machining high-performance engineering plastics is a major advantage.
- Quality & Metrology Knowledge: Deep understanding of GD&T, CMM measurement, SPC, capability studies ($C_{pk}$), and FAIR documentation.
- Communication & Leadership: Fluent in spoken and written English with excellent customer-facing and stakeholder management skills.
🌟 Why Join Us?
- Greenfield Project: Be part of the founding management team setting up a brand-new European-backed manufacturing plant in Malaysia.
- High-Tech Exposure: Work with cutting-edge micron-level precision technology for global market leaders.
- Career Growth: Lead and scale an engineering department with direct impact on local P&L and corporate roadmaps.
- International Knowledge Exchange: Collaborate directly with European engineering counterparts and leverage global group expertise.
