What they need
Overview
Join our team as a TDM Decommission Specialist and play a role in the seamless transition and removal of telecommunications systems from central office and commercial environments. The job will originate in the Denver area with the opportunity to travel nationwide if needed as this is part of a nationwide effort to locate and decommission old telecom equipment.
A tech in networks or telecom environment is useful as a background, but not essential. This energetic position involves planning, executing, and troubleshooting telecom equipment decommissioning processes to ensure minimal disruption and maximum safety. While knowledge of central office equipment is not required, it is a major plus to have it. While you are expected to decommission outdated old telecom equipment, a lot of the job is parsing data and being good at organizing your appointments, routes, soliciting contacts from sometimes uncooperative clients who may not even be aware they have equipment to decommission. You will probably only decommission a third of the devices you are assigned. The rest of the time is hunting down contacts of offices where those devices are supposed to be, then using your smarts to figure out where the devices are located if it's not stored in obvious spots.
Duties
- Execute the decommissioning of telecom equipment including switches, routers, fiber optic systems, and associated cabling within central office facilities and regular commercial buildings using hand tools and power tools.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose issues related to telecommunications equipment using diagnostic tools, network testing equipment, and schematics.
- Document all decommissioning activities thoroughly, including cable terminations, equipment removal steps, and system configurations.
- Coordinate with field service teams for site access, safety protocols, and timely completion of decommissioning tasks.
Requirements
- Experience in field service roles involving telecommunications system installation or decommissioning.
- Ability to operate diagnostic tools such as electrical testers, and telecommunication testing equipment confidently. Even if you haven't used them a lot, you should be able to pick it up right away to succeed in this job.
- Hands-on experience with low-voltage electrical wiring, structured cabling installation, cable termination techniques, and electrical safety standards (NEC).
- Strong mechanical aptitude with proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, power supplies, and electrical test devices.
- Excellent customer service skills to coordinate with clients or internal teams during decommissioning projects.
- Patience and persistence and good judgement skills in dealing with customers. Not all customers are aware of devices that need to be decommissioned and may give you the run around in terms of getting the right contact to meet with in their networks or facilities management department.
- Must have a valid drivers license. Owning a car is a major plus, especially if you do not have a strong background in central office. This can give you a leg up on the other equivalent candidates. You are given an allowance of $150 a week to operate a car whether it is your own or you rent one.
- Ability to make efficient routes and be good with comparisons as to how much time to spend on each lead to track down devices to decom. While you will be given addresses, the lists are based on old databases at times provided by the manufacturer. THis is where persistence and a good inquisitive and investigative mind help.
- You will be given a laptop to use and the ability to navigate multi factor authentication, microsoft teams, emails, compile excel based reports and navigate different portals to get the information you need for the week are essential.
Pay: $950.00 - $1,950.00 per week
