Position Summary

The Temporary Kitchen Supervisor will maintain consistent meal and beverage service during this short-term assignment. The primary focus is preparing and serving two meals each day, overseeing the barista station, and working alongside a team of member leaders who have completed a kitchen and barista bootcamp with Chef Leah Bahan-Harris. This hands-on role helps create a welcoming, safe, and supportive environment while keeping daily kitchen operations organized and dependable.

Meal Preparation and Service

  • Prepare and coordinate two daily meals: use the Second Helpings pan and sides as the foundation for meal one, and prepare soups, salads, and sandwiches for meal two.
  • Coordinate practical daily menus based on available food, expected attendance, and dietary needs; communicate ingredients and known allergens to support informed meal choices.
  • Guide member leaders in food preparation, portioning, setup, meal service, dishwashing, and cleanup; ensure tasks are clear and meals are ready on time.
  • Monitor food and supplies, use donated ingredients efficiently, reduce waste, and coordinate supply needs with the supervisor.

Kitchen Safety and Daily Operations

  • Maintain safe food handling, storage, reheating, and serving practices; follow sanitation procedures and complete required temperature and cleaning records.
  • Keep kitchen work areas, equipment, dishes, and storage spaces clean and organized; oversee daily opening and closing routines.
  • Identify equipment or supply concerns promptly and report them to the supervisor.

Barista Station

  • Oversee daily beverage station setup, service, restocking, and cleanup, working alongside trained member leaders and coffee machine operations.
  • Ideally operate an espresso machine and ensure that anyone using the equipment has appropriate instructions.
  • Maintain safe handling and storage of beverage ingredients and clean equipment according to established procedures.

Member Leader Support and Team Integration

  • Build on the bootcamp training provided by Chef Leah Bahan-Harris, reinforcing established kitchen and barista routines through hands-on guidance.
  • Assign tasks according to member leaders’ skills and readiness, encourage participation, and offer clear, respectful feedback grounded in loving accountability.
  • Attend regular staff meetings to coordinate meals and beverages with Café activities, share updates, and remain integrated with the staff team.
  • Communicate daily priorities, concerns, and support needs with the supervisor and use We Bloom’s established team communication tools.

Qualifications

  • Experience preparing meals in a kitchen or food service setting, including simple menu planning, food safety, and coordinating meal service.
  • Ability to work independently, organize daily tasks, and guide a team with patience, consistency, and respect.
  • Coffee, espresso, and experience preferred; willingness to learn established equipment and beverage routines.
  • Valid ServSafe Food Handler and ServSafe Manager certifications prior to hire.
  • Commitment to We Bloom’s mission, radical hospitality, and multiple pathways to recovery. Lived or professional recovery experience is strongly preferred. We Bloom is a second-chance employer.
  • Availability for the temporary employment term, scheduled shifts, and regular staff meetings.
