About AdvantageCLE:

Advantage Cleveland Tennis & Education (AdvantageCLE) is a Cleveland-based sports-based youth development nonprofit that uses tennis as a gateway to provide academic enrichment, wellness, fitness, STEM, literacy, leadership, and other opportunities for young people. Through school-based programming, afterschool programs, weekend clinics, summer enrichment, and community events, AdvantageCLE works to expand access to tennis and create positive experiences for Cleveland youth.

The Opportunity:

AdvantageCLE is seeking energetic, dependable, and engaging Part-Time Tennis Instructors to provide high-quality tennis instruction across our youth programs.

During the school year, a primary assignment will be Serving with Scholars (SWS), AdvantageCLE’s in-school tennis initiative with local schools. Instructors deliver a structured five-lesson tennis progression during the school day while working alongside PE teachers to help them incorporate tennis into their physical education curriculum.

Depending on experience, availability, and program needs, instructors may also work with:

· Weekend Tennis Clinics;

· Afterschool, middle and high school tennis;

· Girls Rising in Tennis (GRIT); and

· Family engagement and community events;

During the summer, instructors may have the opportunity to join the tennis staff for AdvantageCLE’s Summer Enrichment Camp. Summer positions and schedules are determined separately based on program needs and instructor availability.

Instructors are not expected to be available for every program. Assignments are coordinated based on availability, qualifications, and program needs.

What You'll Do:

• Provide engaging, developmentally appropriate tennis instruction for beginner and developing players.
• Deliver AdvantageCLE’s five-lesson Serving with Scholars curriculum at assigned schools when applicable.
• Work alongside PE teachers and school staff to create positive tennis experiences and help build their capacity to continue tennis instruction.
• Adapt instruction for students’ ages and abilities, group size, available space, and program setting.
• Create a positive, safe, inclusive, and encouraging environment for all students.
• Arrive prepared and on time and communicate regularly with AdvantageCLE tennis leadership regarding schedules, program needs, and concerns.
• Work collaboratively with AdvantageCLE staff, volunteers, teachers, school personnel, and community partners.
• Assist with attendance and basic program reporting as required.
• Transport, set up, maintain, and properly store tennis equipment and instructional materials.
• Represent AdvantageCLE professionally and serve as a positive role model for students

What We're Looking For:

• Knowledge of tennis fundamentals and the ability to effectively teach beginner and developing players.
• USTA Level 1 Coaching Certification or higher, or a commitment to actively work toward Level 1 certification with the support of AdvantageCLE.
• Previous tennis coaching, teaching, camp, or instructional experience preferred.
• Experience working with children or teens in a school, camp, recreation, or youth sports setting preferred.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and group-management skills.
• Dependable, punctual, organized, and responsive to scheduling communications.
• Commitment to AdvantageCLE’s mission and to creating positive youth-development experiences through tennis.

Requirements:

• Complete and maintain USTA Safe Play certification.
• Successfully complete required BCI/FBI background checks prior to beginning instruction.
• Participate in AdvantageCLE training and orientation for assigned programs.
• Reliable personal transportation is required. Instructors must be able to travel independently to schools and other AdvantageCLE program locations throughout Cleveland.
• Ability to independently transport, carry, set up, and break down tennis equipment and instructional materials, including racquets, balls, cones, and portable nets (approximately up to 25 lbs.).
• Applicants must be at least 18 years old.

Schedule & Compensation:

This is a flexible, part-time position with hours determined by program schedules, instructor availability, and AdvantageCLE’s staffing needs. School-year opportunities may occur during the school day, after school, evenings, and weekends.

Summer camp positions are seasonal and scheduled separately. Participation in school-year programming does not guarantee a summer camp position, and instructors are not required to work summer camp to be considered for school-year assignments.

Compensation: $25–$30 per hour, based on tennis coaching experience, certification, and relevant experience working with youth.

USTA Level 1-certified instructors will generally begin at $25 per hour, with higher rates within the posted range available for experienced certified tennis professionals.
