Role Overview

We are looking for a Teradata Administrator with 5+ years of experience in Teradata database administration, production support, performance monitoring, and troubleshooting.

The candidate will be responsible for supporting enterprise Teradata environments, including Teradata Vantage Cloud, performing day-to-day database administration, troubleshooting production issues, monitoring workloads, and assisting with performance tuning and optimization activities.

The role requires strong hands-on Teradata experience, good SQL knowledge, and the ability to work effectively with senior DBAs, application teams, and other technology teams.

Key Responsibilities

Teradata Administration

• Provide L2/L3 operational support for Teradata database environments.
• Perform day-to-day Teradata administration and monitoring activities.
• Monitor database health, availability, CPU, I/O, spool, AMP utilization, and workload performance.
• Manage users, roles, permissions, database objects, and operational activities.
• Support database maintenance, upgrades, migrations, and environment refreshes.
• Perform database health checks and proactively identify potential issues.
• Troubleshoot database connectivity, availability, and operational issues.
• Participate in incident, problem, and change management processes.

Vantage Cloud Support

• Provide operational support for Teradata Vantage Cloud environments.
• Monitor Vantage Cloud workloads, resource utilization, and database performance.
• Troubleshoot performance and operational issues in cloud environments.
• Support Vantage Cloud configuration and administration activities.
• Assist with workload migration and modernization activities.
• Work with senior team members and Teradata support teams on complex Vantage Cloud issues.
• Understand cloud-based database concepts and operational processes.

Performance Monitoring & Tuning

• Monitor and troubleshoot slow-running and resource-intensive queries.
• Analyze EXPLAIN plans and identify SQL performance issues.
• Assist with query optimization and performance improvement.
• Analyze CPU, I/O, spool usage, skew, locking, and workload utilization.
• Review and recommend appropriate statistics, indexes, and SQL improvements.
• Monitor long-running queries and identify performance bottlenecks.
• Assist senior DBAs/SMEs with complex performance tuning activities.
• Track performance improvements and provide supporting metrics.

Production Support

• Provide L2/L3 support for production Teradata environments.
• Participate in incident troubleshooting and resolution.
• Support high-priority production issues and service restoration.
• Perform RCA for recurring database incidents.
• Coordinate with application, infrastructure, ETL, cloud, and monitoring teams.
• Participate in rotational on-call/weekend support as required.
• Follow defined SLAs, operational procedures, and change management processes.

Automation & Continuous Improvement

• Identify opportunities to automate routine DBA activities.
• Develop SQL, BTEQ, Shell, or Python scripts for operational tasks.
• Automate health checks, monitoring, reporting, and repetitive administration activities.
• Contribute to improving database support processes and documentation.

Required Technical Skills

• 5+ years of hands-on Teradata Administration experience.

• Good knowledge of Teradata architecture and database components.

• Strong SQL and Teradata SQL skills.

• Experience with Teradata performance monitoring and troubleshooting.

• Good understanding of:

• EXPLAIN plans

• DBQL

• CPU and I/O utilization

• Spool utilization

• AMP utilization

• Data skew

• Statistics

• Indexes

• Locking and deadlocks

• Query optimization

• Experience supporting production Teradata environments.

• Exposure to Teradata Vantage / VantageCloud.

• Experience with incident, problem, and change management.

• Good troubleshooting and analytical skills.

Preferred Skills

• Hands-on experience with Teradata VantageCloud.
• Exposure to VantageCloud Lake or VantageCloud Enterprise.
• Experience with Teradata migration/modernization projects.
• Knowledge of TASM / workload management.
• Shell scripting or Python.
• Experience with monitoring tools such as Datadog or equivalent.
• Exposure to AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Experience with ETL/data integration technologies.
• Teradata certification is an advantage.

Education
