What they need
Port of Tauranga is New Zealand's largest and most efficient port, and our Tauranga Container Terminal (TCT) is the engine room of that success. We're looking for a Terminal Operations Supervisor to help lead the team that keeps cargo moving safely, efficiently and to a "can do" standard our customers rely on.
About the role
Reporting to the Terminal Logistics Manager, you'll supervise, coordinate and facilitate all land-side cargo operations and transactions across the Tauranga Container Terminal. You'll lead a shift supervisor and wider operational teams day to day, keep our customers front and centre, and play a key role in driving safety, productivity and continuous improvement across the terminal.
This is a hands-on leadership role in a 24/7, fast-paced operational environment — no two shifts are the same.
What you'll be doing
- Leading and coordinating shift teams to deliver operational excellence and outstanding customer service
- Building strong relationships with shipping lines, contractors, transport operators and regulatory agencies
- Overseeing yard operations, resourcing and equipment to maintain safety, efficiency and productivity
- Coordinating the handling of reefer, hazardous, over-dimensional and other specialised cargo in line with best practice
- Ensuring compliance with safety, Customs, MPI and NZFS regulatory requirements
- Identifying and driving productivity, efficiency and technology improvement initiatives
- Developing and reporting on KPIs, and maintaining accurate operational documentation
- Becoming a "super user" of our Terminal Operating System (TOS) and supporting staff training and development
- Leading from the front on health and safety, and contributing to a culture where it's everyone's responsibility
What you'll bring
- 5+ years' operational experience in a container terminal environment
- Proven experience leading teams within a 24/7, shift-based operation
- A track record of coordinating multiple stakeholders — shipping lines, contractors, transport operators and regulatory bodies
- Experience training, coaching and developing operational staff
- Familiarity with N4/XPS Terminal Operating Systems (or similar) is highly advantageous
- Strong operational planning, resource allocation and decision-making skills, including under pressure
- Skilled communication, conflict resolution and stakeholder management
- A tertiary qualification or equivalent relevant work experience
