What they need

  • Help members grow their businesses, solve problems, and get real value from MTA
  • Be MTA's face on the ground and promote products and services designed to help businesses improve.
  • Drive member standards and ensure the MTA Assured badge remains a proud symbol of excellenceThe opportunity

Know the automotive industry and like the idea of helping enable businesses to thrive?

MTA offers a variety of products and services to members, all designed to help and enable members to run better businesses. That’s why we exist.

This role is about making sure every automotive business in your region knows what MTA can do for them, and that our existing members get maximum value from their membership.

Reporting to our Head of Member Growth, you'll spend most of your time out in your territory, meeting members, as well as future members you haven’t yet signed up. You'll listen first, understand how each business runs and point them to the support that will make a real difference. You'll also spend part of your week supporting our member standards programme, which helps make sure the MTA badge continues to be a trust mark to the general public and endorsement of MTA member businesses as being a cut above the rest.

What you'll be doing

  • Plan your territory so members and prospective members get regular, purposeful contact.
  • Grow the membership base.
  • Get to know members' businesses, and identify where we can help add maximum value.
  • Make sure members know about the services, benefits, events and partner offers relevant to them.
  • Support our standards programme by carrying out member checks fairly, consistently and accurately.
  • Maintain detailed CRM records, so that we have a comprehensive understanding of member businesses.
  • Work closely with other MTA teams, including the events team, to assist broader organisation goals.

You could call this role ‘sales’. There will be targets. But as a member association, it’s not about commodity products and the like. Every product or solution MTA offers is geared toward helping member’s run better businesses, so you can feel good about it too knowing you’re making a difference to the awesome people that make up the automotive industry.

About MTA

For more than 100 years, MTA has helped New Zealand's automotive businesses thrive. Our members work across the whole industry, from vehicle sales and servicing to repair, parts, fuel, towing, recycling and more. We back them with practical services, speak up on their behalf and help lift standards across the industry. This role puts you at the centre of that work.

About you

You're motivated, driven, practical, curious, and comfortable talking with automotive business owners, whether that's on the workshop floor or in the office. You like getting to the bottom of what a business needs, and you do what you say you'll do. You'll have clear targets for growing and keeping membership in your region and you'll enjoy working towards them, while keeping your records tidy, comprehensive, and bringing a fair, consistent eye to standards work.

What you'll bring

  • Field-based business development, account management or B2B sales experience, with results to show for it.
  • Experience planning and growing a territory, whether that's new customers, renewals or revenue.
  • Automotive industry experience and knowledge.
  • A consultative approach: you ask good questions, listen properly and build relationships that last.
  • Confidence working with technical standards, assurance or compliance requirements.
  • Experience using a CRM to plan your work, keep records and report on progress.
  • A relevant tertiary, trade or industry qualification, or significant equivalent experience.
  • A full New Zealand driver licence and the ability to travel safely across your territory.

Please note that we would consider other locations within the southern half of the South Island

We'd love to hear from you. Apply with your CV and a cover letter telling us what interests you about the role and what you'd bring to it.
