Test Engineer

Position Summary:

The Test Engineer is responsible for supporting all test engineering activities within a high-mix PCBA manufacturing environment. This role focuses on developing, maintaining, and optimizing test programs for AOI, Flying Probe, and Functional Test (FCT) systems to ensure high product quality, stable yield performance, and efficient production support.

The Test Engineer works closely with the Senior Test Engineer, production team, and quality team to troubleshoot test failures, improve test coverage, and support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities.

Key Responsibilities:

Test Engineering Support:

• Support Senior Test Engineer in daily test engineering activities.

• Provide technical support to production for test-related issues.

• Assist in troubleshooting board failures detected during testing.

• Support root cause analysis and corrective actions.

• Ensure test stations are running efficiently to support production output.

AOI (SAKI) Programming & Support:

• Develop and maintain AOI programs using Saki inspection systems.

• Fine-tune inspection parameters to improve defect detection.

• Reduce false calls and improve inspection accuracy.

• Support investigation of AOI defects and process escapes.

• Work with process engineers to improve soldering and placement quality.

Flying Probe Test Support:

• Develop and maintain Flying Probe test programs.

• Support electrical testing and debugging of PCB assemblies.

• Perform failure analysis and fault isolation.

• Improve test coverage and optimize test cycle time.

• Support NPI boards validation through Flying Probe testing.

Functional Test (FCT) Development:

• Assist in developing and debugging Functional Test (FCT) programs.

• Support test fixture setup and validation.

• Perform debugging of FCT failures.

• Monitor test performance and identify improvement opportunities.

• Ensure test stations meet production requirements.

Tester Programming & Data Analysis:

• Develop and maintain test programs for FCT and Flying Probe testers.

• Support automation and scripting for data collection.

• Maintain tester documentation and version control.

• Analyse test data to identify failure trends and yield improvement opportunities.

• Support integration with MES and traceability systems.

NPI & Engineering Support:

• Support test strategy development for new products.

• Assist in test readiness during NPI stage.

• Perform test validation and engineering verification.

• Support engineering builds and pilot runs.

• Work with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth production ramp-up.

Yield & Test Performance Monitoring:

• Support improvement of First Pass Yield (FPY).

• Monitor test failure trends and initiate corrective actions.

• Reduce retest and false failure rate.

• Support improvement of test efficiency and uptime.

• Participate in continuous improvement activities.

Documentation & Process Compliance:

• Maintain test documentation and work instructions.

• Support preparation of test procedures and SOPs.

• Update test coverage reports and engineering records.

• Ensure compliance with quality standards and customer requirements.

• Support internal and customer audits when required.

Qualifications:

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field.

Experience:

• Minimum 3–5 years experience in EMS / PCBA manufacturing environment
• Hands-on experience in AOI, Flying Probe, or Functional Test systems
• Experience in test program debugging and failure analysis
• Exposure to NPI process and production support

Technical Skills:

• AOI programming (preferably SAKI)
• Flying Probe testing and debugging
• Functional Test (FCT) operation and troubleshooting
• Basic tester programming
• Test coverage analysis and DFT understanding
• Failure analysis and structured problem-solving tools (8D, 5 Why)

Certifications:

• Relevant certifications such as IPC-A-610, IPC-7711/7721, or equivalent are a plus.
