Who We Are

Owl Autonomous Imaging is helping define the next generation of Physical AI through advanced thermal imaging semiconductors and AI powered perception platforms. Our technology enables autonomous drones, robotic systems, intelligent machines, and other platforms to perceive and operate in degraded, denied, and no visibility environments where conventional sensors fail.

As a U.S. based developer of advanced long wave infrared (LWIR) imaging technology, Owl is building next generation thermal perception systems for applications across defense, robotics, and safety and security. At Owl, we foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, technical excellence, and accountability. Our team tackles challenging engineering problems, develops technology with real world impact, and plays a direct role in shaping the future of intelligent machines.

About the Role

Owl Autonomous Imaging is seeking a Test Engineer to support the development, integration, verification, and validation of Owl’s advanced AI-powered thermal imaging systems. This role will work closely with hardware, firmware, software, systems, and product teams to develop and execute comprehensive test systems and strategies that ensure our products meet technical, performance, reliability, and customer requirements.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer who enjoys working across the hardware/software boundary, troubleshooting complex systems, developing repeatable test methods, and turning test results into actionable engineering improvements.

What You’ll Accomplish

  • Establish reliable and repeatable test systems and methods.
  • Identify product issues early in the development process.
  • Provide clear, actionable test data to engineering teams.
  • Improve test coverage and efficiency through process improvements and automation.
  • Effectively troubleshoot issues across system components.
  • Maintain high-quality verification documentation.
  • Support successful product development milestones and customer deliverables.

Role Level & Scope

Individual contributor role

Essential Responsibilities

  • Develop, document, and execute test systems, plans, procedures, and test cases for thermal imaging modules, cameras, sensors, embedded systems, and related products.
  • Perform functional, integration, system-level, performance, regression, and environmental testing.
  • Develop and maintain automated and semi-automated test methods where appropriate.
  • Design and build test fixtures, test setups, and supporting tools to enable repeatable and efficient testing.
  • Collect, analyze, and document test data and identify trends, anomalies, and product issues.
  • Troubleshoot failures across hardware, firmware, software, optics, sensors, and system interfaces.
  • Work with engineering teams to identify root causes and support corrective actions.
  • Reproduce, document, and track defects through resolution.
  • Participate in requirements reviews and provide input regarding testability, validation methods, and acceptance criteria.
  • Establish appropriate test coverage for new features, engineering changes, and new product development activities.
  • Support verification and validation activities throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Develop clear, objective test reports and communicate results to engineering and leadership.
  • Support prototype builds, engineering evaluations, production, field testing, and customer demonstrations as needed.
  • Maintain test equipment, fixtures, documentation, and laboratory organization.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of Owl’s engineering test processes, methodologies, and documentation.
  • Follow applicable quality, configuration management, cybersecurity, and company procedures.
