Te Au Reka - Improving access to justice for all New Zealanders

Te Au Reka represents the opportunity of a lifetime, making a profound difference to those who work in and interact with our courts and tribunals. We are seeking to modernise the administration of justice by replacing highly manual, time-consuming, paper-based processes with a new digital case management solution, transforming the way people access and experience justice in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Te Au Reka is a large, complex and unique programme spanning the courts and tribunals of New Zealand. In delivering Te Au Reka we are seeking to build the Ministry's capability to deliver complex programmes of change. Working on Te Au Reka will give you the opportunity to use your knowledge and experience, while developing new ways of working. We are building a team that is highly collaborative, inquisitive and adaptable. Te Au Reka is a gamechanger, and we care deeply about making it a success.

Te Haeata/The Opportunity

As a Test Engineer, you will work closely with frontline, vendors, and the wider Te Au Reka program team to ensure the solution meets the requirements and is fit for purpose. You will play a key role throughout the application lifecycle, supporting build, test, release, deployment, and configuration activities.

You will also support the planning, execution, and reporting of testing activities, help drive testing best practices, and work with stakeholders to ensure solutions meet quality and service acceptance requirements.

In this role, you will:

  • Improve the use and availability of automated testing practices and tools across the Ministry
  • Lead testing activities delivered by team members and suppliers
  • Support the planning, coordination, and execution of system, integration, and acceptance testing activities
  • Strengthen testing capability by identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and more effective service delivery

Ō pūkenga/Skills and Experience

To be successful in this position you will have,

  • Proven test engineering experience in large and complex environments
  • Experience implementing automated testing at the unit, system, and/or acceptance testing levels, particularly within Agile delivery teams
  • Strong experience working collaboratively with business analysts, developers, and business stakeholders to design and execute effective testing solutions
  • Experience applying risk-based testing approaches and validating features with Product and/or Service Managers
  • The ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in a related discipline, or equivalent experience, supported by a commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Relevant industry, technical, and/or professional certifications

Desirable:

  • An understanding of the constitutional principles and legal processes that underpin New Zealand's justice system
  • Knowledge of All-of-Government ICT principles, practices, and service offerings

No candidate will meet every single desired qualification. If your experience looks a little different from what we have outlined and believe you can bring value to the role, we'd love to hear from you!
