About the Role
Lucideon has a long history of successful support of the construction industry with its unique testing and development facilities in Staffordshire.
Our business helps our clients in their development of new construction products and systems, in all forms of materials and combinations.
Job Purpose:
As the industry develops and modernises its current construction methods and further evolves its sustainable capabilities, we are growing and diversifying to meet market needs. Following recent investments in exciting new capabilities and equipment improvements, we can offer more services and increase productivity in this busy sector.
Although the team may be considered relatively small with circa 25 colleagues, the devil is in the detail – our highly skilled technical team are pitted against some of the construction industry’s toughest testing challenges, including making sure the roof of Wembley Stadium doesn’t collapse!
Lucideon is looking for a motivated and technically minded Test Engineer to join our Construction – Structures team. In this hands-on role, you will carry out testing on a wide range of construction products and components to British and European standards, as well as bespoke client specifications.
You will play a key role in ensuring products meet required performance expectations, gathering and analysing data, and producing high‑quality technical reports. This position also involves direct communication with clients, so confidence and clarity in communication are essential.
Key Responsibilities
With appropriate training, you will be able to work independently on the following:
Interpreting technical test requirements.
Developing and compiling test methods.
Liaising with clients both in person and via remote channels.
Identifying and specifying the test and measurement equipment required.
Instructing the construction of test rigs and/or the preparation of samples.
Setting up instrumentation and data‑gathering systems.
Conducting a range of physical and mechanical tests.
Collecting, analysing, and formatting test data.
Producing accurate, clear, and concise test reports for clients.
Supporting wider team activities such as test rig design and identifying opportunities for improving efficiency and workflow.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
Level 3 qualification (A‑Level / BTEC / HNC or equivalent) in Mechanical, Construction, Civil Engineering, or a related scientific discipline.
Previous work experience or university project work related to Mechanical or Civil Engineering.
Desirable:
Degree in a relevant Engineering or Science subject.
Experience with or exposure to construction industry products and components.
Basic CAD competency (2D and 3D).
Skills & Attributes
We’re looking for someone who has:
The physical ability to move samples safely and independently.
A basic understanding (or willingness to learn) of laboratory standards and procedures.
A desire to learn, develop skills, and build a long‑term career in Civil Engineering.
The ability to interpret standards, regulations, and technical information, with strict adherence to SOPs and all safety requirements, including use of PPE, machinery operation, and correct storage and disposal of samples.
Strong written communication skills and confidence producing detailed technical reports.
Clear verbal communication and the ability to work with clients at all levels.
A methodical and detail-focused approach to work with a willingness to challenge results and question potential errors.
Curiosity, initiative, and an eagerness to understand the purpose and context of testing.
The ability to work independently, and as part of a team with a collaborative mindset and a strong team ethic.
