What they need
Product Test Engineer – Electrical Power Tools
Our client is an accredited testing and certification laboratory that helps manufacturers get electrical products approved for European and North American markets. They are growing their power tools team and are looking for a Product Test Engineer to join them.
This is a hands-on technical role. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers on international certification projects, with plenty of room to take on more responsibility as you develop.
The successful candidate will have a few years’ experience in testing, development or quality of power tools or household appliances. They’ll be confident running tests independently and keen to build specialist knowledge of IEC and North American standards.
Key responsibilities:
- Testing hand-held and transportable power tools against EN/IEC 62841
- Preparing CB Test Reports and supporting certification under the IECEE CB Scheme
- Supporting North American approvals to UL 62841, CSA C22.2 No. 62841 and FCC Part 15 / ICES-003
- Designing test set-ups and running mechanical, electrical, thermal and EMC tests
- Working with senior engineers, clients and certification bodies to deliver projects on time
- Writing up results, mostly in English, and helping improve test methods
- Visiting manufacturing sites and client laboratories (around 15% travel)
What they’re looking for:
- A degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or similar, or an equivalent technical qualification (e.g. Techniker)
- 1–3 years’ experience in product testing, development or QA of power tools or household appliances
- Working knowledge of EN/IEC 62841; CB Scheme experience is a plus
- Interest in UL, CSA and FCC requirements, with hands-on experience a bonus
- Confidence with electrical measurement equipment
- A structured, quality-focused approach and good teamwork
- Good German and English
What’s on offer:
- Flexible hours, hybrid working where possible and 30 days’ holiday
- Company pension and a strong benefits package
- Structured training, mentoring and clear development paths
- A stable employer with long-term career prospects
This will suit an engineer who enjoys practical testing and wants to become a specialist in international product certification, with senior support and a clear path to grow.
