What they need

Altronic, LLC — a Cooper Machinery Services company — is seeking a Test Engineering Manager to lead Production Test Engineering within Operations. Reporting to the VP of Manufacturing, this role partners closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Product Engineering, and Quality Engineering to implement new product end-of-line and intermediary tests. The Test Engineering Manager leads a team of test engineers responsible for maintaining and enhancing existing test hardware and software, and for developing new test engineering solutions for new products. Typical test designs prioritize fast, reliable coverage that supports on-time customer delivery, with automation and continuous improvement applied after product release.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Lead the Test Engineering team in the design, development, and maintenance of test hardware and software for existing and new products
  • Partner with Quality, Design Engineering, and Manufacturing Engineering to support root cause analysis and corrective actions on internal and external defects
  • Work with Design Engineering during new-product development to translate test specifications into test hardware/software used in manufacturing
  • Evaluate existing test hardware/software and identify opportunities for improvement, enhancement, and efficiency
  • Serve as lead for the In-Circuit Testing (ICT) area, including equipment analysis, development, and procurement; partner with the Quality team, which owns daily operation and programming of the equipment
  • Maintain current knowledge of emerging test engineering hardware and software
  • Supervise Test Engineers, providing guidance on project deadlines, training, and professional development
  • Participate in Engineering Design Reviews related to Test Engineering
  • Ensure Test Engineering deliverables are completed on time to support on-time release of new products
  • Perform other duties as assigned

WHO YOU ARE

Electronic & Digital System Test Expertise – Control & Ignition Products

  • Deep understanding of embedded, microprocessor/microcontroller-based digital control and ignition system architectures, including engine control units, ignition modules, and spark-timing/energy management
  • Experience testing digital and mixed-signal PCBAs, including validation of embedded firmware/software for control and ignition products
  • Proficiency with industrial communication protocols (CAN bus, Modbus, RS-485/RS-232) as used for engine control diagnostics, calibration, and test automation
  • Knowledge of high-voltage, high-energy ignition circuits — coil drivers, capacitive-discharge ignition (CDI), and spark timing/energy verification
  • Experience with automated test equipment (ATE), in-circuit test (ICT), functional circuit test (FCT), and boundary-scan/JTAG techniques
  • Proficiency developing test automation software (e.g., LabVIEW, TestStand, Python, or C/C++) for hardware-in-the-loop and functional test systems
  • Skilled with bench instrumentation for embedded/digital diagnostics — oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, logic analyzers, and signal generators
  • Understanding of environmental and reliability test methods (vibration, thermal cycling, HALT/HASS) relevant to engine-mounted electronics
  • Familiarity with EMI/EMC test practices for industrial and engine control electronics
  • Familiarity with sensor and actuator interfacing common to engine control systems (speed/position sensors, knock sensors, solenoid/driver circuits)

General Technical Knowledge

  • Strong problem-solving and root-cause-analysis skills
  • Working knowledge of IPC standards
  • Component-level troubleshooting experience, down to schematic and firmware level
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing methods and quality concepts
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes/equipment, preferably in electronics assembly
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001
  • Working knowledge of test engineering practices
  • Strong electrical engineering and software/firmware engineering skillset

Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Engineering Technology
  • 5+ years of electronics test engineering experience
  • Hands-on experience conducting root cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and reporting skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Strong managerial skills with the ability to hold direct reports accountable
  • Proficiency with quality control applications, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases
