What they need

Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated Photomask Process Engineer to support and improve advanced photomask manufacturing processes. This role is responsible for developing, monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimizing manufacturing processes used to produce high-precision photomasks for semiconductor and microelectronics applications.

The Photomask Process Engineer will work closely with manufacturing, equipment engineering, quality, metrology, and technical teams to improve process capability, product quality, yield, cycle time, and overall manufacturing performance. This position requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify process variation, investigate defects, determine root causes, and implement sustainable corrective actions.

The ideal candidate has an engineering or technical background with experience in semiconductor manufacturing, photolithography, photomask production, thin-film processing, precision optics, or another highly controlled manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and optimize manufacturing processes used in photomask production.
  • Monitor process performance, product quality, yield, defect levels, and other key manufacturing metrics.
  • Analyze production and process data to identify trends, variation, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Lead root-cause investigations related to process failures, defects, yield loss, and customer quality concerns.
  • Develop and implement corrective and preventive actions to improve process stability and product performance.
  • Establish and maintain process parameters, specifications, operating procedures, and engineering documentation.
  • Support photomask processing operations, including cleaning, coating, exposure, development, etching, inspection, repair, and metrology processes as applicable.
  • Evaluate process capability using statistical analysis and Statistical Process Control (SPC) methods.
  • Design and execute engineering experiments and Design of Experiments (DOE) to improve process performance and validate changes.
  • Partner with equipment engineering and maintenance teams to troubleshoot equipment-related process issues.
  • Support the introduction, qualification, and validation of new equipment, materials, processes, and technologies.
  • Participate in new product introduction and process-transfer activities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve manufacturing yield, cycle time, throughput, quality, and cost.
  • Develop technical reports and communicate engineering findings, recommendations, and project results to manufacturing and technical leadership.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to manufacturing technicians and operators.
  • Support customer requirements and quality investigations by providing technical analysis and process data.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable safety, quality, cleanroom, environmental, and manufacturing standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using structured problem-solving and data-driven methodologies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Optical Engineering, or a related technical discipline required.
  • 2+ years of process engineering, manufacturing engineering, or related technical experience preferred.
  • Experience in semiconductor, photomask, photolithography, wafer fabrication, optics, microelectronics, or precision manufacturing strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of manufacturing process control, process capability, and continuous improvement principles.
  • Experience analyzing manufacturing and engineering data to identify trends and solve technical problems.
  • Working knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC), root-cause analysis, and structured problem-solving methodologies.
  • Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE) preferred.
  • Strong technical documentation and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications, process requirements, engineering data, and quality standards.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple engineering projects and priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work effectively across manufacturing, quality, equipment, engineering, and leadership teams.
