Test Software Development Engineer

About the role

Design, develop, and implement automated test software for new product introductions (NPI), primarily using VB.NET, C#, Python, or similar object-oriented programming languages. You will develop and maintain test frameworks, libraries, and tools to streamline test development and improve efficiency, while collaborating closely with development engineers in Ottawa and Shenzhen.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement automated test software for new product introductions (NPI), primarily using VB.NET, C#, Python, or similar object-oriented programming languages
• Develop and maintain test frameworks, libraries, and tools to streamline test development and improve efficiency
• Collaborate closely with development engineers in Ottawa and Shenzhen
• Debug and troubleshoot complex software issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions
• Verify and validate software through unit, integration, and system-level testing
• Participate in design and code reviews to promote best practices and maintain quality standards
• Research and evaluate emerging test technologies, tools, and methods to enhance test capabilities

About you

• Bachelor's or master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field
• At least two years of experience in test software development, preferably in a manufacturing or R&D environment
• Strong programming skills in VB.NET, C#, Python, SQL, or similar languages
• Experience automating test equipment and controlling instruments
• Familiarity with communication protocols such as SCADA, PLC, GPIB, USB, Ethernet, and RS-232
• Experience with software development methodologies such as Agile or Scrum
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and debugging skills
• Effective written and verbal communication skills in English
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment
