DAC is seeking an experienced Testing, Adjusting & Balancing (TAB) Technician to support our commercial HVAC and building systems projects throughout the Houston market.

We're looking for a detail-oriented technician who understands how HVAC systems are designed to operate and has the technical knowledge to test, measure, adjust, and balance those systems to achieve proper airflow, water flow, and overall system performance.

This is a hands-on field position for someone who takes pride in accurate measurements, troubleshooting system performance issues, and delivering quality work.

Candidates with AABC or NEBB certifications are strongly encouraged to apply.

What You'll Do

As a TAB Technician, you will:

  • Perform testing, adjusting, and balancing (TAB) of commercial HVAC air and hydronic systems.
  • Measure and adjust airflow, water flow, pressure, temperature, and other system performance parameters.
  • Test and balance air handling units (AHUs), variable air volume (VAV) systems, exhaust fans, supply and return air systems, pumps, and related HVAC equipment.
  • Perform air and water balancing in accordance with project specifications and applicable industry standards.
  • Use specialized TAB instruments to collect, analyze, and document system performance data.
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, HVAC plans, equipment schedules, and engineering specifications.
  • Identify and troubleshoot airflow, hydronic, mechanical, and control-related performance issues.
  • Coordinate with mechanical contractors, controls technicians, engineers, commissioning teams, and project managers to resolve system deficiencies.
  • Verify HVAC equipment and system performance against design requirements.
  • Prepare accurate field reports, test data, and documentation for final TAB reports.
  • Assist with system start-up, commissioning, and performance verification activities as needed.
  • Maintain and properly use TAB instruments, testing equipment, and company resources.
  • Follow established safety procedures, project requirements, and quality standards.
  • Communicate professionally with customers, contractors, and other project stakeholders.

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with commercial HVAC testing, adjusting, and balancing and understands the relationship between airflow, hydronic systems, mechanical equipment, and building controls.

We're particularly interested in technicians who can work independently, recognize system performance issues, and provide accurate testing data that supports successful project completion.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working with commercial HVAC systems, mechanical equipment, or testing and balancing activities.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC airflow, pressure, temperature, and/or hydronic system fundamentals.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, equipment schedules, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to use technical measuring instruments and testing equipment.
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to accurately document measurements, testing results, and system performance data.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with contractors, engineers, and project teams.
  • Ability to perform fieldwork in commercial construction and occupied building environments.
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Strongly Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience performing commercial HVAC Testing, Adjusting & Balancing (TAB).
  • AABC (Associated Air Balance Council) certification or NEBB (National Environmental Balancing Bureau) certification.
  • AABC Test and Balance Technician (TBT) or NEBB Certified Technician (CT) credentials.
  • Experience working under AABC or NEBB testing and reporting standards.
  • Experience balancing both air distribution and hydronic systems.
  • Knowledge of HVAC equipment including AHUs, VAV boxes, fan systems, pumps, chillers, and associated mechanical systems.
  • Experience using airflow hoods, manometers, anemometers, flow meters, and other TAB testing instruments.
  • Familiarity with Building Automation Systems (BAS), DDC controls, and HVAC commissioning processes.
  • Experience working on commercial construction, healthcare, educational, industrial, or institutional facilities.
