BHC Alhambra Hospital is a 115 bed facility established in 1924. BHC Alhambra Hospital is a private, fully accredited, full-service acute psychiatric hospital serving children, adolescents and adults. BHC Alhambra Hospital is dedicated to providing quality behavioral health, substance abuse, and eating disorder treatment options for the communities of the San Gabriel Valley, Los Angeles County, and surrounding areas. BHC Alhambra Hospital does not provide emergency services.

Job Description: The Program Specialist II is responsible for planning and implementing activity services for assigned program, which involves defining and implementing treatment goals as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team and providing continuous patient care, observation, interaction, and role modeling to patients under the direction of a Recreational Therapist.

Key Responsibilities include:

• Demonstrate responsibility for observation and application of sound judgment in patient's physical and mental condition/needs.
• Observe and document changes in patient's appearance, behavior, and ability to work towards treatment plan goals.
• Communicate changes in patient's condition to Charge Nurse or Recreational Therapist.
• Provides assessment in psychosocial/leisure and recreational skills development/deficiency.

Requirements:

Education: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in activity therapy, humanities, social work or related therapeutic discipline preferred; or currently enrolled in a Certified Recreational Therapy program, or have State Approved Activity Director Certification and/or Associate's Degree in occupational therapy or related field.

Experience: Two (2) years of related experience, with knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques with understanding of mental illness, preferred.

Licensure: Preferred certification by state and/or national governing body in the following applicable areas: art, recreation, occupation, or music therapy, if applicable.

Additional Requirements: May be required to work overtime and flexible hours.
