Thermal Processing Technician (Batch & Temper)

What you’ll handle day to day

• Run batch and temper furnaces to meet exact thermal specifications.
• Tweak machine controls to dial in process parameters.
• Confirm correct racking with the proper fixtures/alloys and racking methods.
• Complete routine upkeep on the carbon analyzer.
• Burn shims and log all documentation accurately.
• Check that unracked product meets all requirements.
• Jump in to assist with racking and unracking as needed.
• Audit paperwork and tags to ensure accuracy and completion.
• Keep the department clean, safe, and organized.

Where you’ll lead

Step up to supervise Batch Rackers—and all department employees—whenever the shift supervisor is away.

How you’ll grow

• Training needs will be identified during appraisals to help you master each essential duty.
• Operate under the guidance of an approved furnace operator until fully qualified.
• Earn recommendations from your training operator and supervisor.
• Pass a hands‑on assessment and a written Level 1 Heat Treat Test or Quality/Heat Treat Operations Test with a minimum score of 85%.

Bring these basics

• Education: High school diploma or GED preferred (not required).
• Experience: 1–3 months related experience/training preferred, or equivalent mix of education and experience.
• Language: Ability to read safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Math: Comfortable with addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers and decimals.
• Reasoning: Apply common sense to follow written, verbal, or diagrammed instructions.

What the job demands

• Physical: Regular standing; occasionally lift/move up to 50 lbs.
• Environment: Frequent exposure to extreme heat; moderately loud noise.
