Thixo Tooling Engineer

Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Tooling Engineer with experience in tooling design to join our team.

The ideal candidate will have a background in Die casting Tool, with a preference for those experienced in thixomolding. This role requires a deep understanding of the Tooling design process, including DFM, Gating system design, Thernal balance system design, trial casting process optimization, improving the performance of production tool.

Essential Job Functions include, but not limited to, the following:

• Lead tooling design process of the Thixomolding launch across the entire value stream from pursuit through start of production including but not limited to:
  • Ensuring DFM/DVA process is carried out
  • Lead the Maturation of tooling.
• Analyze and troubleshoot process parameters to ensure consistent quality and efficiency.
• Work closely with engineering and production teams to reduce downtime.
• Maintain and tooling to meet product specifications.
• Schedule, Ensure Compliance and/or Perform preventive maintenance on tool and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
• Identify and implement tooling improvements to enhance productivity and reduce waste.
• Document production data and provide reports on Tool
• Feasibility issue identification, advocate for DFM/DFA, and resolution including mitigation plans.
• Prelaunch capability assessment and escalation.
• Support as needed Trimming Tool design and/or Trial
• Ensure the implementation of all relevant SES and Ergonomic principles (including the 20 SES Tooling Design guidelines) and SHAPE technical standards
• Ensure that FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) are done and followed, that the KCC (Key Controls Characteristics) are well chosen, and the process & equipment capabilities targets are achieved.
• Identify and train a back-up(s) to manage key tasks when absent.
• Additional functions not specifically outlined in this position description as directed by the leader.

Requirements:

Qualifications & Skills:

• Technical background in manufacturing, preferably in die casting or plastics injection molding.
• Strong knowledge of Tooling Process, Trial casting, and troubleshooting.
• Strong knowledge in Thixomolding &/or High Pressure Die Casting tooling and gating strategies.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and process documentation.
• Hands-on experience with metal or plastic molding equipment.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Willingness to work in a fast-paced production environment across all production shifts.

Preferred Experience:

• Thixomolding Tool experience (preferred over plastics injection molding).
• Experience with Diecasting is a strong advantage.
• Familiarity with magnesium alloy processing.
• Understanding of quality control and lean manufacturing principles.
