Join Our Installation Team at FETTES Sawmill Ltd.

FETTES Sawmill Ltd. is a family-run business specialising in the supply and installation of high-quality timber buildings and outdoor living products throughout Scotland.

Due to continued growth, we are looking to expand our installation team and welcome applications from people interested in either a permanent, full-time employed position or a self-employed installation role.

We offer two opportunities to join our team. Whether you are an experienced installer looking for ongoing contract work or someone with a strong work ethic who is keen to learn a practical trade, we would love to hear from you.

Our installations cover a varied range of products, including:

  • Garden rooms and timber buildings
  • Decking and outdoor living areas
  • Sheds and summerhouses
  • Interlocking timber cabins
  • Bespoke timber structures and other outdoor products

This is a hands-on role working at customers' properties throughout Inverness and the local area. No two installations are quite the same, offering plenty of variety and the opportunity to develop your skills while helping deliver quality products and excellent customer service.

Two Opportunities to Join Our Team

Self-Employed Timber Building Installer

We are looking for an experienced installer who can confidently take on timber building installation work and consistently deliver a high standard of workmanship.

Applicants should have proven experience installing timber buildings, decking, sheds and/or interlocking cabins. You will need to be confident using a range of tools, working through installation challenges and completing projects efficiently to the required standard.

We value contractors who take pride in their work, pay close attention to detail and understand the importance of a professional finish. You should be able to work independently when required, use your initiative to resolve problems and communicate potential issues or practical solutions to management.

Pay: Negotiable, depending on experience and capability.

Full-Time Employed Installation Team Member

We are also looking for a reliable, hardworking individual to join our employed installation team on a permanent, full-time basis.

Previous experience in timber building installation is not essential, as full training will be provided. However, we are looking for someone with a positive attitude, a strong work ethic and a genuine willingness to learn and develop practical skills.

Organisation is particularly important in this role. We need someone who takes responsibility for preparing for the working day ahead, ensuring tools, equipment, materials and personal arrangements are ready the night before wherever required. Being organised, punctual and prepared helps the whole team work efficiently and keeps installations running to schedule.

You should enjoy practical, hands-on work, be willing to learn from experienced colleagues and take pride in improving the quality of your work over time.

Salary: £29,000–£33,000 per year, depending on experience.

Key Responsibilities

For both positions, responsibilities will include:

  • Installing timber buildings, decking, sheds, interlocking cabins and other outdoor structures, with training provided for employed applicants.
  • Maintaining high standards of workmanship, attention to detail and quality of finish.
  • Using hand tools, power tools and installation equipment safely and effectively.
  • Loading, transporting and unloading materials and equipment.
  • Driving vehicles and towing trailers, including double- and triple-axle trailers.
  • Working efficiently to agreed installation schedules and deadlines.
  • Identifying practical challenges and helping find effective solutions.
  • Communicating clearly with management and colleagues about progress, issues and potential improvements.
  • Working professionally and courteously at customers' properties.
  • Maintaining tidy work areas and following safe working practices.
  • Working outdoors throughout the year and at heights when required.
  • Preparing for upcoming work and ensuring tools, equipment and materials are ready when needed.

Essential Requirements for Both Positions

Regardless of which employment option you apply for, you must have:

  • A full, valid UK driving licence with the appropriate entitlement for the vehicles and trailer combinations you will operate.
  • Experience driving with and towing double- and triple-axle trailers.
  • The ability to travel to installation sites throughout Scotland.
  • A reliable, punctual and professional approach to work.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work well with others.
  • The ability to undertake physically demanding work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • A willingness to work occasional late finishes and stay away overnight when projects require it.
  • A commitment to working safely and delivering a good standard of customer service.

What We Are Looking For

We want people who take pride in their work and contribute positively to the team.

For the self-employed position, practical installation experience, sound judgement and the ability to deliver a high-quality finish are essential.

For the employed position, we are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, organised, willing to learn and prepared to put in the effort needed to become a skilled installer. You do not need previous timber installation experience, but you must have a strong work ethic and take responsibility for being ready for each working day.

Across both positions, attention to detail, initiative, teamwork and the ability to work to schedules are important. We value people who identify potential problems early, think practically and communicate constructive solutions rather than simply leaving issues for someone else to resolve.

What We Offer

  • Competitive employed salary: £29,000–£33,000 per year, depending on experience.
  • Full training for employed applicants: Develop practical skills and gain experience working with a range of timber structures.
  • Varied projects: Work on garden rooms, decking, sheds, cabins and bespoke outdoor buildings throughout Scotland.
  • A supportive working environment: Join a friendly, experienced team within an established family-run business.
  • Monday-to-Friday working pattern: With occasional late finishes and overnight stays where required by the work.

Employed staff also receive 28 days' paid holiday per year, including bank holidays, and benefit from a two-week company shutdown over the Christmas and New Year period. Employee discount and on-site parking are also available.

Interested in Joining Us?

If you are an experienced installer looking for ongoing self-employed work, or someone with the right attitude who wants to learn a practical trade as part of our employed installation team, we would be pleased to hear from you.

Please send us your CV along with a brief covering email explaining which option you are interested in, your relevant experience and trailer towing experience, and why you would be a good fit for FETTES Sawmill Ltd.
