What they need
Dirtworks is seeking an experienced, hands-on Tipsite Supervisor Machine Operator to lead day-to-day operations at our dedicated clean-fill and managed-fill tip site in Waimauku. This is a working leadership role requiring proven multi-machine proficiency, a solid understanding of compliance requirements, and the confidence to direct a crew on the ground. If you know your way around a bulldozer, excavator, and Moxy, and you take compliance and environmental controls seriously, then we want to hear from you.
About Us
Dirtworks specialises in clean-fill and managed-fill projects, providing complete transportation and tipping solutions across Auckland. Our own fleet of truck-and-trailer units tip at our dedicated Waimauku site year-round, rain or shine. We run an experienced team, supported by an in-house workshop and with management who know the industry inside out.
About the Role
This is a senior, hands-on working role. You will be on the machines every day as well as leading those around you. Reporting to site management, you will be responsible for:
· Hands-on operation of a range of heavy machinery including bulldozers (including bully & scoop), excavators, Moxy, and more. Competence across multiple machine types is essential
· Leading, directing, and mentoring operators on the ground, setting the standard for safe, efficient work practices
· Overseeing day-to-day tip-site operations: traffic flow, fill placement, compaction, and site tidiness
· Enforcing and championing compliance with consent conditions, environmental controls, and clean-fill/managed-fill acceptance criteria, including identifying and rejecting non-compliant loads
· Applying and monitoring erosion and sediment controls, stormwater management, and other environmental mitigation measures relevant to fill-site operations
· Supporting the implementation of the GD05 framework as it applies to site acceptance and fill classification(a working understanding of GD05 principles is preferred)
· Reading and interpreting plans to guide earthworks, bulk fill placement, and drainage works
· Conducting pre-start checks and supporting the preventative maintenance programme; liaising with the in-house workshop as needed
· Building positive relationships with truck drivers, customers, and management; communicating clearly and professionally at all times
What We’re Looking For
· Minimum 5 years’ heavy machinery operation experience, with strong proficiency on multiple machine types (excavator, bulldozer, Moxy or similar)
· Demonstrated experience in a senior operator, leading hand, or supervisory capacity in an earthworks or civil environment
· Sound knowledge of fill-site compliance requirements (clean-fill and managed-fill acceptance criteria, load documentation, and environmental controls)
· Experience monitoring and maintaining erosion and sediment controls and other on-site environmental mitigation measures
· Proven ability to direct and communicate with a team on the ground, clearly and confidently passing on instructions and upholding safe work practices
· Ability to read and interpret civil plans and drawings
· Working knowledge of the GD05 framework preferred
What We Offer
· Competitive remuneration reflective of your experience and skills
· Company vehicle and phone provided
· Excellent direct management support & genuine opportunity to grow your leadership profile
· Skilled in-house workshop team for immediate repairs and scheduled plant maintenance
· Stable, year-round work - we operate in all weather, all year
· Well-established Auckland earthmoving operation
Pre-employment and ongoing random drug and alcohol screening applies to all Dirtworks sites.
Applicants must already be residing in New Zealand and legally entitled to work.
