Tool & Die / Machinist

Qualifications:

5 Years of Manual lathe, manual surface grinder and manual milling machine experience

· Must be able to pass a drug screening

· Must be able to calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and calipers.

· Very good knowledge of manufacturing and assembly techniques

· Ability to work independently and follow directions with limited supervision

Basic Description:
Set up and operate a variety of manual machines to produce precision parts . May also reverse engineer, fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.

General Job Description:

· Machine parts to specifications using manual lathes, drill press , manual milling machines, and manual surface grinders.

· Measure and examine parts in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers.

· Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.

· Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.

· Study sample parts, blueprints, and drawings, in order to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products, and determine product dimensions and tolerances.

· Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.

· Lay out, measure, and mark metal stock in order to display placement of cuts.

· Observe and listen to lathe , mill , and surface grinder in order to diagnose machine malfunctions and to determine need for adjustments or repairs.

· Check work pieces to ensure that they are properly lubricated and cooled.

· Performs preventative maintenance activities of all types, including the most critical types requiring extensive dismantling, re-assemble, and critical adjustment, lubrication, and/or calibration of machine shop equipment.

· Fabricate machine guarding

· Reads and maintains accessible blueprints, mechanical drawings, and technical manuals, etc.

· Tracks and records work history and maintains inventory on a daily basis using CMMS.

· Creates work orders for planned and unplanned work using computerized maintenance system.

· Work from drawings, sketches and verbal instructions.

· Daily inspections of production equipment for correct operation.

· Recommend improvements and upgrades to improve equipment operation.

· Work extended hours and on weekend as needed

Additional Skills:

· Must have tools necessary to perform tasks associated with the position.

· Must have good interpersonal skills and interface with all departments.

· Must be a self-starter, able to work with a minimum of supervision.

· Must have manual machinist experience. None of our machines are CNC .

Physical Requirements

· Must be able to lift 50lb.

· Bending, Reaching, Squatting, Stooping, walking, standing.

Pay: $35.00 - $39.00 per hour
