Automotive Plastic Injection Tooling

Our client is an established Windsor-area automotive tooling manufacturer specializing in the build, repair, modification, and engineering changes of plastic injection molds.

They are looking for an experienced Tool Maker / Mold Maker to join their permanent night shift.

This position is ideal for an experienced mold maker who is comfortable taking ownership of tooling work and can independently troubleshoot, fit, assemble, repair, and modify complex plastic injection molds.

Shift

• Full-time, permanent night shift
• Monday through Friday
• Consistent night-shift schedule
• Optional overtime available
• Employees interested in additional hours can also work weekend night shifts

The Role

As a Tool Maker / Mold Maker, you will work on automotive plastic injection tooling through various stages of the build, repair, and modification process.

You will be responsible for fitting, spotting, assembling, troubleshooting, repairing, and modifying molds while working closely with CNC, design, and other members of the tooling department.

Key Responsibilities

• Build, assemble, disassemble, and reassemble plastic injection molds
• Perform mold fitting, finishing, and assembly
• Perform component spotting and core-to-cavity spotting
• Diagnose and troubleshoot mold-related problems
• Complete mold repairs, modifications, and engineering changes
• Support new mold builds and existing production tooling
• Fit and assemble mold components to required specifications
• Work with cores, cavities, slides, lifters, inserts, and other mold components
• Troubleshoot dimensional, mechanical, and functional tooling issues
• Support mold start-ups and corrective work when required
• Work with hot runner systems and manifolds
• Operate manual toolroom equipment as required
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, mold designs, and specifications
• Use precision measuring equipment to verify dimensions and tolerances
• Identify tooling issues and recommend practical repair solutions
• Work collaboratively with CNC machinists, designers, and other mold makers
• Maintain high standards for workmanship, safety, and quality

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will have:

• Several years of hands-on tool making / mold making experience
• Strong experience with plastic injection molds
• Automotive tooling experience is strongly preferred
• Experience with mold assembly and disassembly
• Strong spotting experience, including core-to-cavity spotting
• Experience troubleshooting and repairing injection molds
• Knowledge of slides, lifters, inserts, cores, cavities, and other mold mechanisms
• Hot runner and manifold experience is an asset
• Ability to read and interpret detailed mold designs and engineering drawings
• Strong understanding of mold construction and function
• Experience using precision measuring equipment
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills
• Ability to work independently and make sound tooling decisions
• Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship
• Reliability and the ability to work consistently on night shift
