Position Summary

The Rental Sales Associate is the frontline ambassador of our shop, responsible for guiding customers through tool and equipment selection, ensuring safe tool usage, and managing all aspects of the rental transaction. This role combines sales, customer service, and light inspection duties to create a seamless rental experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Customer Service & Sales:
• Greet customers promptly with a friendly, helpful attitude
• Assess customer needs or project requirements and recommend appropriate tools/equipment
• Explain tool functionality, safety guidelines, and usage tips
• Contract & POS Management:
• Review and clarify rental contract terms, rates, and any applicable fees (fuel, late charges, insurance)
• Accurately process leases and payments using the POS application
• Answer incoming calls, respond to inquiries, and make reservations as needed
• Tool Inspection & Turnaround:
• Inspect tools and equipment before checkout for safety and functionality
• Perform post‐rental inspections upon return; document damages, missing parts, or required maintenance
• Coordinate with the Service & Repair Manager or Maintenance Technician to flag items for repair or service
• Store Upkeep & Presentation:
• Maintain a clean, organized, and professional lobby and sales floor
• Restock displays, ensure tools are properly shelved, and inventory levels are visible
• Sweep floors, wipe down counters, and tidy customer waiting areas throughout the day
• Team Collaboration:
• Communicate customer feedback, equipment issues, or supply shortages to management
• Support coworkers during busy periods by assisting with check‐in/checkout and tool retrieval
• Participate in briefings on promotions, new equipment, or policy changes

Qualifications

• 1+ year of retail, customer‐service, or rental experience (tool/equipment rental a plus)
• Strong communication skills—able to explain technical details in clear, layman’s terms
• Basic mechanical aptitude; comfortable learning about power tools and equipment
• Proficiency with point‐of‐sale systems and basic computer skills
• Attention to detail, especially when inspecting tools and processing contracts
• Able to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs

Preferred Skills & Attributes

• Familiarity with local construction, landscaping, or DIY project workflows
• Previous experience in a fast‐paced, customer‐focused environment
• Ability to multitask—balancing phone inquiries, in‐person customers, and administrative duties
• Positive attitude, reliability, and a team‐oriented mindset
• Bilingual a strong plus, but not required

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $10.50 - $11.50 per hour
