Tool Setter

About the role

Supports CNC machining operations by assisting in the preparation, setting, and maintenance of cutting tools and workholding.

Key responsibilities:

• Set up, operate and troubleshoot Citizen L12 and A20 Swiss-type CNC machines.
• Prepare and install cutting tools, tool holders, collets, guide bushes and related tooling.
• Perform machine changeovers and tool-offset adjustments.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, tolerances and machining specifications.
• Conduct first-piece setup and ensure components meet quality requirements.
• Optimise tooling, cutting parameters and machining cycle times.
• Identify and resolve machining issues such as tool wear, dimensional variation, poor surface finish and tool breakage.
• Support operators and junior toolsetters with technical guidance.
• Work closely with Production, Engineering and Quality teams to improve productivity and reduce machine downtime.
• Maintain proper tooling records and ensure tools are prepared for upcoming production orders.

Requirements:

• Minimum 2 years of experience in CNC machining, tool setting or Swiss-type automatic lathe operations.
• Strong hands-on experience in Citizen L12 machine setup and tooling.
• Experience in Citizen A20 machines will be an advantage.
• Good knowledge of Swiss-type machining processes, cutting tools, collets and guide bushes.
• Able to read technical drawings and use precision measuring instruments.
• Able to perform machine troubleshooting and dimensional corrections independently.
• Experience machining high-precision components is preferred.
• Responsible, safety-conscious and able to work with minimal supervision.
• Willing to work shifts when required.
