Tooling Design Engineer

To design, inspect, modify, and develop tyre manufacturing moulds, tooling, and related components to ensure dimensional accuracy, efficient machine operation, product quality, and smooth manufacturing processes. The role requires strong technical expertise in tyre tooling design, 2D and 3D CAD software, and tyre manufacturing machinery.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

• Design and develop bead rings, item numbers, and bladder clamp rings as per product and machine requirements.
• Carry out mould inspection, design, modification, and development, including all associated tooling.
• Design and develop BPR, bead flange tools, and turn-up tools as per applicable technical specifications.
• Prepare and update tooling drawings, layouts, and technical documentation.
• Ensure tooling designs meet dimensional accuracy, functional requirements, and manufacturing standards.
• Perform bladder selection based on tyre specifications, mould dimensions, and machine requirements.
• Calculate bladder stretch and evaluate suitability for the intended application.
• Analyze tooling and component requirements to support efficient tyre building and curing operations.
• Possess a sound understanding of the functions and working principles of tyre manufacturing machines.
• Understand machine-tooling interfaces, tooling fitment, and operational requirements.
• Prepare and maintain product layouts and product drawings as per approved specifications.
• Handle E-marking design requirements and ensure appropriate marking details are incorporated into relevant drawings.
• Develop and modify 2D and 3D designs using AutoCAD and Siemens NX.
• Prepare detailed engineering drawings, assembly drawings, and tooling layouts.
• Calculate and prepare Bills of Materials (BOMs) for tooling, moulds, and related components.
• Maintain accurate records of design revisions, technical changes, and approved drawings.
• Maintain daily activity records, work progress reports, and task completion updates.
• Ensure proper documentation of mould inspections, modifications, and design changes.

Requirements

• Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Tool and Die Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Minimum 6 years of relevant experience in the tyre manufacturing industry or a closely related industry involving tyre moulds, tooling, and mechanical design.
• Strong knowledge of tyre mould and tooling design.
• Practical experience in bead rings, bladder clamp rings, BPR, bead flange, and turn-up tooling.
• Knowledge of bladder selection and stretch calculations.
• Understanding of tyre manufacturing machinery and related tooling requirements.
• Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD design using AutoCAD and Siemens NX.
• Ability to prepare product drawings, layouts, E-marking details, and BOMs.
