Tooling Design Specialist

Mission

We are looking for a Manufacturing Excellence Tooling Design Specialist to join our Manufacturing Excellence team in Apodaca. You will design, validate and approve forming tools for stamping, hot forming, roll forming, tube bending and hydroforming, ensuring manufacturability, quality and cost efficiency while preventing production issues and supporting engineering optimization and VAVE initiatives.

About the job

This role owns the design, review and approval of forming tooling, helping ensure manufacturability, part quality and cost efficiency before tools reach fabrication and the shop floor. The position works closely with product and process engineering and supports tooling performance through validation, troubleshooting and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Design robust forming tooling aligned with product requirements and manufacturing feasibility.
• Review and approve tooling designs before fabrication, identifying risks that could create quality or production issues.
• Apply the Global Die Construction Standard (GDCS) and feed lessons learned back into standards and design practices.
• Partner with product and process engineering to optimize part geometry, manufacturability and VAVE opportunities.
• Identify tooling cost reductions and lifecycle improvements without compromising performance or quality.
• Perform or support simulations, virtual validation and prototype trials to verify process capability.
• Support tooling procurement by confirming specifications and approving designs prior to fabrication.
• Support shop-floor and tool-maintenance teams with troubleshooting, adjustments and implementation of improved tooling.
• Analyze tool-performance data and propose improvements in design, materials or construction methods to reduce scrap and improve part quality.

Profile

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience in forming technology.
• Expert proficiency in CATIA or Unigraphics (NX), AutoCAD and die design.
• Strong stamping-process knowledge and knowledge of new-generation materials.
• Intermediate English.
• Experience with hot forming, roll forming, tube bending or hydroforming is a plus.
• Experience with VAVE, tooling simulation/validation and tooling cost optimization is a plus.
