Tooling Designer (Plastic Injection Molding)

Responsibilities

• Perform Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and cost-efficiency analyses on product designs for plastic injection molding.

• Develop 2D detail drawings and 3D precision mold/tool designs using SolidWorks and AutoCAD, incorporating standard Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).

• Create mold layouts, prepare Bills of Materials (BOMs), maintain technical documentation, and lead internal and client design reviews.

• Manage mold fabrication projects from concept to production release while liaising with cross-functional engineering teams and customers.

• Participate in First-Off Tooling (T1) reviews, evaluate mold trial samples, analyze tooling defects, and implement corrective engineering modifications.

• Leverage expertise in polymers, elastomers, and automotive industry tooling standards to deliver high-precision molds meeting specifications.

Requirements

• Proficient in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and the application of GD&T standards.

• Proven technical background in plastic injection mold design and manufacturing processes.

• Knowledge of automotive industry quality and tooling standards is advantageous.

• Strong root-cause analysis, problem-solving, and technical communication capabilities.

• Detail-oriented team player capable of managing multiple tool development schedules.
