Tooling Developer

Position Summary: The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical expertise in support of new part launches and tooling activities.

Job Duties:

• Develop and review product designs to facilitate tool design

• Collaborate with Designers to ensure process-ability

• Support Tooling Manager to ensure timely and accurate quoting

• Coordinate and conduct tool trials for process development and proto-type supply through PPAP and start of production

• Develop and document molding processes capable of achieving the cycle time, functionality and quality committed to in the quotation process

• Evaluate all product changes for the potential impact on tool cost

• Report on process development relative to achieving targets, risks and deficiencies to project teams

• Estimate process times for quotation purposes, noting critical design assumptions requiring clarification

• Define critical criteria required for primary equipment specification and quotation including material handling equipment, tonnage, core sequences, heating/cooling and special construction requirements

• Develop a standard tool & machine specifications with the Engineering group

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Bachelor of Science/Engineering or College Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field

• 1-3 years manufacturing experience in molding, tool design and fabrication preferred but not necessary

• Strong understanding of state-of-the-art tooling technology, assembly and fabrication

• Knowledge of QC fixturing, fundamental machining methods, GT&D and tool costing methods

• Previous experience using 2D/3D CAD would be considered an asset

• Proficient in Microsoft Office programs

• Strong analytic and problem-solving skills

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $60,000.00-$70,000.00 per year
