Position Overview
EVONA is working with a rapidly growing space technology company seeking a Tooling Engineer to join its Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE) team. The Tooling Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, fabrication support, and validation of tooling, fixtures, jigs, and ground support equipment used throughout spacecraft assembly, integration, and test (AIT).
This position is ideal for a mechanical or manufacturing engineer with hands-on experience designing tooling and fixtures for aerospace hardware.
Key Responsibilities

- Develop preliminary designs, layouts, concepts, material selections, manufacturing processes, and testing requirements.
- Define mechanical interfaces between tooling and associated hardware or subsystems.
- Create and maintain manufacturing drawings and interface control drawings.
- Design equipment used to safely handle, transport, integrate, and protect flight hardware.
- Provide engineering support during fabrication, assembly, integration, and testing of tooling and GSE.
- Ensure tooling and fixtures meet program technical, structural, and operational requirements.
- Support structural engineering decisions and technical trade studies.
- Work closely with manufacturing, AIT, mechanical, and other engineering teams.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 2+ years of hands-on experience designing tooling, fixtures, or ground support equipment.
- Experience within spacecraft, aerospace, or a similar high-reliability manufacturing, assembly, integration, or test environment.
- Strong 3D CAD and mechanical design skills.
- Ability to develop and interpret engineering and manufacturing drawings.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience designing tooling and fixtures for aerospace AIT activities.
- Experience designing large welded steel tooling or fixture assemblies.
- Knowledge of GD&T.
- Experience with PDM and PLM systems.
- Experience with FEM tools and/or classical structural analysis methods.
- Autodesk Inventor experience.
- Master’s degree or other advanced technical qualification.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in an office and engineering environment for extended periods.
- Ability to perform light assembly work.
- Ability to lift items weighing up to 50 lbs.
This is an opportunity to work directly with the equipment and infrastructure used to support the assembly and testing of advanced spacecraft hardware.
