Tooling Engineer

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Tooling Design & Development: Design, modify, and improve injection molds or manufacturing tools, ensuring they meet product specifications and production requirements.
• Project Management: Oversee the entire tooling lifecycle—from initial concept and design review to fabrication, testing, and final approval (buy-off).
• Maintenance & Repair: Manage preventative maintenance schedules and perform troubleshooting for mold issues to minimize production downtime.
• Supplier/Vendor Management: Coordinate with external mold makers or suppliers to ensure quality standards, cost-effectiveness, and timely delivery of tooling projects.
• Technical Support: Provide expertise to the production and engineering teams regarding mold feasibility, material selection, and processing challenges.

Key Personal Skills and Attributes:

• Design Software: Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, NX, or CATIA).
• Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of mold mechanics, materials science (steel grades/heat treatment), and manufacturing processes (CNC machining, EDM, etc.).
• Problem-Solving: Strong ability to diagnose mechanical failures and implement effective design improvements.
• Communication: Ability to bridge the gap between design engineering, production floor, and external suppliers.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related fields.
