Trade Assistant

We are seeking an experienced Trade Assistant to join our friendly and results-driven Perth team on a full-time basis. This role sits within our Maintenance Department, working in our Roof Plumbing & Gutter Cleaning division. You will work across roof plumbing maintenance and minor works jobs, as well as gutter cleaning contracts servicing schools, prisons, commercial offices, and other government and commercial properties throughout the Perth metro area — attending sites both north and south of the river.

You will primarily assist with roof plumbing tasks, including roof repairs, flashing installation, guttering work, downpipe replacements, and safe handling of tools and materials at height. You will also operate gutter cleaning machinery, such as gutter vacuums, to clean gutters. You will always be working in teams of 2 or more, with a risk assessment completed prior to every job, including a JSA and SWMS.

Safety is paramount at AWB. We operate a 100% attachment policy at all times when working at height. You will be required to work from fall restraint systems and wear a harness as part of your daily duties. Our motto is “Safely Home in One” — and we live by it every day.

Key Responsibilities

• Roof Plumbing Maintenance & Minor Works: Assist roof plumbers as a second person during Working at Heights tasks, including roof repairs, flashing, guttering, and downpipe replacements.
• Gutter Cleaning Contracts: Carry out gutter cleaning works across schools, prisons, commercial offices, and government sites, including operating gutter cleaning machinery such as gutter vacuums.
• Risk Assessment: Complete a risk assessment prior to every job, including preparation of and adherence to JSAs and SWMS.
• General Maintenance & Labouring: Perform general maintenance and labouring duties across commercial sites.
• Site Preparation & Demolition: Carry out minor demolition and site preparation works.
• **Material Handling:**Load and unload materials, and assist with gutter cleaning and roof maintenance.
• Site Clean-Up & Safety: Complete job site clean-ups and adhere to all site safety procedures and requirements.
• On-Call Support: Participate in the on-call roster as required.

Requirements

• **Experience:**Previous experience assisting trades such as roofing, carpentry, or painting.
• Industry Knowledge: 2+ years’ experience in commercial or government maintenance environments.
• Working at Height: Comfortable and confident working at height in a harness from fall restraint systems, in line with AWB’s 100% attachment policy.
• Safety Documentation: A sound understanding of JSAs and SWMS is essential, with the ability to complete risk assessments prior to every job.
• Ready to Go: Valid Driver’s Licence, Police Clearance, White Card, Working @ Height Certificate (Valid).
• Team Player: Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Tech-Savvy: Proficient IT skills and familiarity with online/mobile job management systems (SimPRO) is a plus.
• Professional Communicator: Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Knowledgeable: Familiarity with building codes, safety regulations, and industry best practices.
