Trade Assistant

About the roleOur client requires a practical, reliable and process-driven person for a Trade Assistant/Fire Sentry role.
This is a temporary position and is expected to start ASAP and run for between 3-9 months.

The work will be both on and off board vessels and will include assisting tradesmen with:

• Setting up and transporting tools and equipment
• Fire Watch
• Operating grinders, setting up welders
• Assisting Fabricators with their work
• General upkeep of Workshop and site
• Ensuring a safe working environment and mitigating fire risk
• Emergency evacuation procedures, in the case of an emergency
• Assisting other trades across the yard including painting, general carpentry and general labour.

About you:

For this role, you will need:

• Be prepared to undertake necessary training and happy to work in confined spaces and at heights
• Experience in a workshop or engineering environment
• Capable of operating power tools such as grinders and workshop machinery.
• Be diligent and reliable, with excellent communication skills
• A current driver’s license
• Clean criminal history
• Supply 2 verbal references

Benefits:

• Overtime rate (overtime is not guaranteed)
• PPE is provided (excluding safety boots, which you need to provide)

Our client is a stable, essential service business that is the major provider of engineering services to the marine industry in NZ, operating at NZ’s largest dry dock. They undertake major projects for the refurbishment of Naval vessels and offer a range of short and long term project based contracts.
