Trade Customer Service Representative / Retail Operator

We're looking for an enthusiastic, practical and self-motivated person to join our team at Industrial Trade Supplies (ITS).

This isn't just a stand-behind-the-counter retail role. We're looking for an all-rounder who enjoys helping people, learning new things and getting stuck into whatever needs doing. Someone who can take ownership of their role, bring new ideas to the table and help us continue to grow and improve the business.

ITS works closely alongside our brother companies, Edwards Engineering Services and Cut Fold NZ, giving this role exposure to a busy engineering and manufacturing environment as well as trade retail.

Our customers rely on us not just to sell them a product, but to help them find the right solution

What you'll be doing:

• Providing friendly, knowledgeable customer service in-store and over the phone

• Helping customers find the right tools, equipment, consumables and solutions

• Creating invoices and processing sales

• Ordering products and following up suppliers

• Receiving, checking and putting away inward goods • Preparing and dispatching outward goods

• Managing faulty tools, warranty claims and repairs from start to finish

• Carrying out test & tag work for our workshop and customers - training can be provided

• Making local customer deliveries when required

• Keeping the store tidy, organised and well presented

• Researching products and suppliers to find solutions for customers

• Developing a strong understanding of the products we sell and what they're used for • Helping identify new products, ranges and opportunities for the store

• Assisting with promotions, specials, brochures and marketing ideas

• Helping create deals and product bundles that will appeal to our trade customers

• Keeping an eye on stock and identifying products that need replenishing

• Answering incoming calls across ITS, Edwards Engineering Services and Cut Fold NZ when required

• Welcoming and assisting incoming customers and visitors across all three businesses and making sure they get to the right person

• During quieter periods at ITS, lending a hand to the Edwards Engineering Services and Cut Fold NZ teams with general tasks and support where needed

• Pitching in wherever needed to keep the shop - and wider team - running smoothly

The person we're looking for:

We don't expect you to know everything on day one. What matters is that you're curious enough to find out.

• Has a naturally helpful and friendly personality

• Is confident talking to everyone from engineers and tradies to suppliers and the general public

• Has great personal enthusiasm and can keep themselves motivated

• Works extremely well independently - you'll often be managing the shop without someone looking over your shoulder

• Sees something that needs doing and just gets on with it

• Is comfortable taking responsibility and following things through

• Has an interest in tools, engineering, mechanical products or how things work

• Is confident researching a product when you don't know the answer

• Is organised and able to juggle several different jobs at once • Is comfortable using computers and learning new systems

• Has good attention to detail

• Is happy to move between different tasks and help across our wider group of companies when needed

• Brings a positive attitude to work Experience in industrial retail, engineering, tools, automotive, mechanical or trade supplies would be fantastic, but it's not essential for the right person.

We're particularly interested in finding someone with an open mind and initiative.

There is plenty of scope for the right person to make this position their own.
