What they need
About the role
Our client, a rapid growing hedge fund is looking for a hands-on Trade Operations Specialist who combines solid middle-office expertise with strong coding and automation skills. The role sits at the intersection of daily trade lifecycle management and continuous process improvement through technology.
Key responsibilities
- Own the full post-trade workflow: trade capture validation, confirmations, allocations, and settlement support across Futures, Options, Bonds, and Fixed Income.
- Perform daily reconciliations of trades, positions, cash, and collateral against brokers, custodians, and the fund administrator; investigate and resolve breaks promptly.
- Manage corporate actions and lifecycle events (option expiries, bond coupons, resets, amendments, etc.).
- Design, build, and maintain automation solutions (primarily Python and VBA/Excel macros) to streamline reconciliations, exception handling, reporting, and data flows between systems.
- Proactively identify manual or repetitive processes and convert them into reliable, documented scripts or tools that reduce operational risk and free up team capacity.
- Serve as the key operational contact for traders, portfolio managers, internal teams, and external counterparties.
- Support collateral, margin, and cash management activities as required.
- Produce clear operational reports and metrics on volumes, breaks, settlement performance, and automation impact.
- Contribute to the operational onboarding of new products and counterparties.
- Maintain robust controls, documentation, and audit-ready records.
About you
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 3–5+ years of experience in trade operations, middle office, or a closely related post-trade role.
- Strong preference for buy-side background (hedge fund or asset manager).
- Solid hands-on experience with Futures, Options, Bonds and/or Fixed Income products in a post-trade environment.
- Proven understanding of trade confirmations, settlements, reconciliations, break resolution, and the broader trade lifecycle.
- Experience dealing with prime brokers, custodians, and fund administrators.
- Strong coding and automation capability is essential. Candidates must be comfortable writing and maintaining scripts in Python and/or VBA to automate operational processes. Advanced Excel skills (including macros) are required.
- Familiarity with trading platforms or portfolio management systems is an advantage.
- High attention to detail, ability to work accurately under time pressure, and a proactive, ownership-driven mindset.
- Clear communicator who works effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
