Trading Management Engineer

The Trading Management Engineer is responsible for overseeing the governance, compliance, performance monitoring, and analytical support functions of the company's energy trading operations. The role serves as the custodian of trading, forecasting, and optimization models while ensuring compliance with Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) rules, regulatory requirements, and internal risk management policies.

The position supports trading operations through market analytics, settlement validation, performance monitoring, reporting, and process improvement initiatives. The Trading Management Engineer works closely with traders, plant operations, regulatory affairs, finance, and market operators to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and effectiveness of trading and market participation activities.

Key Responsibilities Trading Governance and Compliance

• Ensure compliance with WESM Rules, market manuals, ERC regulations, and internal trading policies.
• Monitor market participation activities and identify potential compliance risks or operational issues.
• Coordinate with IEMOP, PEMC, ERC, and other industry stakeholders on trading compliance matters.
• Facilitate timely submission of market reports, declarations, registrations, and compliance requirements.
• Monitor changes in market rules, policies, and regulations and assess operational impacts.
• Support internal and external audits related to trading operations and market participation.

Trading Model Custodianship

• Serve as the custodian of trading, forecasting, bidding support, and optimization models utilized by the trading organization.
• Maintain model governance frameworks, version control processes, assumptions libraries, and model documentation.
• Validate model inputs, methodologies, outputs, and performance against actual market outcomes.
• Conduct periodic model reviews and recommend enhancements to improve forecasting accuracy and reliability.
• Ensure models remain aligned with changing market conditions, business requirements, and regulatory frameworks.
• Maintain audit trails and documentation supporting model development, validation, and approval processes.

Market Analytics and Performance Monitoring

• Analyze market behavior, electricity prices, supply-demand conditions, and trading performance.
• Develop and maintain dashboards, reports, and key performance indicators for trading activities.
• Evaluate trading outcomes against forecasts, strategies, and budget assumptions.
• Provide market intelligence and analytical insights to support management decision-making.
• Perform post-trading analysis and identify opportunities for operational and commercial improvement.

WESM Settlement and Market Operations Support

• Review and validate WESM settlement statements, invoices, charges, and related market transactions.
• Coordinate with Finance and Trading teams to reconcile settlement discrepancies.
• Analyze billing adjustments, reserve market charges, congestion charges, and related settlement components.
• Support registration, accreditation, and market participation requirements for generating facilities and market entities.
• Assist in managing market transactions and operational processes associated with WESM participation.

Risk Monitoring and Controls

• Monitor compliance with approved trading limits, operating parameters, and risk management guidelines.
• Prepare risk exposure reports and assist in identifying potential market, operational, and regulatory risks.
• Support the implementation of trading controls and governance mechanisms.
• Conduct scenario and sensitivity analyses to evaluate risks arising from market movements and regulatory changes.
• Escalate material risks and control deficiencies to management.

Data Management and Reporting

• Maintain integrity, accuracy, and accessibility of trading data repositories.
• Develop automated reporting tools and analytical solutions to support trading operations.
• Ensure consistency of market, operational, and financial data utilized in analyses and reporting.
• Generate periodic management reports on trading performance, compliance status, and market developments.
• Support regulatory reporting requirements and management presentations.

Process Improvement and Digitalization

• Identify opportunities to enhance trading systems, workflows, reporting processes, and analytical tools.
• Support automation initiatives related to forecasting, settlement verification, and compliance monitoring.
• Participate in projects involving new market products, ancillary services, reserve markets, and emerging energy trading opportunities.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of trading governance frameworks and operational procedures.

Required Qualifications Education

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Energy Engineering, Computer Engineering, Finance, or related disciplines.

Experience

• At least 3-5 years of experience in power markets, energy trading support, market operations, regulatory compliance, power systems analysis, or related fields.
• Experience in WESM operations, electricity markets, generation operations, or energy portfolio management is highly preferred.
• Experience in settlement validation, market analytics, forecasting, or trading support functions is an advantage.
• Fresh graduates with exceptional academic credentials and strong quantitative backgrounds may be considered for junior-level roles.

Regulatory and Compliance

• Understanding of regulatory compliance frameworks.

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional Electrical Engineer (PEE) or Registered Electrical Engineer (REE) is an advantage.
