Reviewing subdivisions, site plans, rezoning applications, maintenance of traffic (MOT) plans, and other development and roadway proposals for traffic operations, safety, and compliance with applicable requirements, including the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), Virginia Work Area Protection Manual, VDOT standards, City Code, and Chesapeake Public Facilities Manual.

Supporting the evaluation and improvement of the City’s traffic signal system and other traffic management infrastructure, including oversight of signal timing and system optimization projects.

Participating in the identification, evaluation, and prioritization of transportation projects for the City’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP) and assisting with the development of grant applications and other funding opportunities.

Advancing the City’s transportation initiatives by addressing complex traffic-related concerns from residents, businesses, and other stakeholders; coordinating with City departments, regional agencies, consultants, and partner organizations; and representing the division on technical and regional committees.
